My lovebird isn't using her foot or climbing. Does she need a vet?

I am concerned that your lovebird has an infection in the foot or in the joints of the foot. Sometimes if the infection becomes severe can spread into the bone which makes it very painful and more difficult heal. I would recommend taking your bird to be examined by your veterinarian. She may need to do x-rays to determine the extent of the infection and see if it has traveled into the bone. Your bird will likely need to be put on an antibiotic for a while to help clear up the infection as well. Your veterinarian can also prescribe pain medication so your lovebird can be more comfortable while the infection is healing. I hope this helps. Ouch! That does sound like she's injured her foot. Until you can get to the vet, providing some low, flat perches that are easier to stand on (like a platform rather than having to curl her toes around it) and food and water dishes she can easily climb in and out of may help her relax the foot a bit and maintain her balance easier. Keeping her warm and preventing her from picking at or chewing on the foot can also help. If she's housed with other birds, moving her to a hospital cage to avoid being picked on is also a good idea.

This can be caused by many conditions, but unfortunately, she needs to be seen by vet to figure out what is going on and get some treatment options. I think it would be a good idea to schedule a recheck with your vet to make sure there isn't any lasting damage to the foot to explain why Cheeky is still favoring it. There could be some minor nerve damage that still needs to heal and is causing some pain. Providing some larger, flat perches may make it easier for him to rest his feet and perch without it being as uncomfortable as it heals. In the future, it is best to keep Cheeky out of the kitchen, or in his cage, especially while you are cooking or eating to avoid any additional accidents.

I am sorry to hear about Leroy! I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian to try to figure out why Leroy is having pain in his foot. There are many possible causes including trauma, bacterial infection, arthritis, and bumblefoot (pododermatitis). The vet may recommend an x-ray of the foot or may be able to determine what is going on based on the appearance and then recommend appropriate treatment. I wouldn't take a "wait and see" approach to this issue as these problems can worsen and cause long term complications that are more difficult to treat.

Poor Abood! You didn't mention if you received these medications from a vet, but if they were home remedies and haven't helped, it's time to visit one. It's possible there is an infection in the foot that needs to be drained, or a break or sprain of the foot itself that requires treatment. In the meantime, if you suspect an infection, Epsom salt soaks can help, as can removing all perches (to prevent a fall) and making food/water dishes easy to get in and out of so Abood isn't trying to use the foot to get around which may cause more injury. Soft bedding at the bottom of the cage can help keep him comfortable. However, seeking out a vet in person that can examine the foot, X-ray if needed, and provide additional treatment is best.

Poor Turri! It sounds as if the injured toe/foot is causing him some distress and pain which could be why he is showing other symptoms of illness. If he is limping and also acting ill, it would be best to bring him to a vet ASAP so that the foot can be examined and treated, and any other underlying conditions ruled out to help get him feeling better.
