My lovebird isn't using her foot or climbing. Does she need a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 4 months old

Hi-! My Lovebird, Momo, is not using one of her feet, and is struggling to climb the cage, she was fine yesterday but I noticed she did similar last week. She is sitting with her foot tucked in and her wing loose over it, any ides what she may have done? And does she require a vet visit? Thank you, Stef

A visit to the veterinarian would be prudent to diagnosis infection or injury. It is possible she may have caught it on the cage, in a toy or food bowl. Check her toenails as well. If they are too long, it can make moving and perching difficult or uncomfortable.
