Why is my Eclectus parrot regurgitating and sharing his food?

Often they regurgitate (not vomit) their food when they are in the presence of a friend or mate. It's a way for them to show off. If you have a particularly close relationship with your parrot, then this could explain the behavior; especially if it's something he does regularly. They can also do it more often during breeding seasons. There are a couple of different diseases of the gastrointestinal tract that can also cause frequent regurgitation, so it's best to have him checked out by an avian vet if this suddenly started occurring. If you are suspicious that it's more behavioral, then you may consider altering how you interact with your parrot. This is especially important when it comes to touching your parrot. In the wild, friends will only touch around the head and neck, while mates will touch areas below the neck, like under the wings and belly. Essentially, you'll want to give a little distance between you and the parrot. If that stops the regurgitating, then you'll know that's the problem. Regurgitation can be a sign of affection/wanting to mate, and some birds may display this behavior toward people they are bonded with if they do not have a mate. It is best to discourage the behavior by either stopping interactions when it happens, or distracting with a favorite toy or treat instead. Puzzle toys or things that can be chewed on/groomed may help him get out some boredom or affection for the object instead.

Birds do not recognize themselves in the mirror, so this would explain the mating behavior of regurgitating. I know it looks somewhat concerning, but it is more of a behavioral thing and is not concerning from a medical standpoint. If she seems more hormonal (like she's displaying a lot of mating behaviors), then you should expect this to pass within a few weeks. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to stop her from doing this at this time...you'll have to just wait for this phase to pass. If she doesn't seem to be keeping any food down or is continuing the behavior for longer than a month, then it's best to have a vet check her out. There are a few different infections and conditions that cause chronic regurgitation, so it would be good to rule these out as a cause.

This may be mating or sexual behavior. The whole seed indicates regurgitation instead of vomiting. The rubbing of the perch is likely mounting behavior. It should pass. You can provide different toys or rearrange the cage to distract him, but there is no cause for concern as long as he is behaving normally otherwise.

If Kaki is actively vomiting up the food (not just regurgitating) or is showing other signs of illness such as changes in weight (losing weight), disinterest in eating, etc, I would try to get him into the vet sooner as this could be a sign of something more serious that requires additional treatment. If he seems to be maintaining his weight and isn't bothered by bringing up the food, you may be able to wait until his vet exam, however if his symptoms worsen or he shows other signs of illness seeking care sooner is best. Rapid changes to the diet and lots of extras can cause GI upset and changes to the stool, and if he wasn't being fed such a rich diet previously his body may be still trying to adjust to it all. Sticking to the basics he is able to keep down (such as the pellets) may help his body to adjust until his vet visit. Ruling out other issues such as infections, sour crop, parasites, etc with your vet is also smart.

Have Sky examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet to diagnose illness or injury. You can also move the cage away from direct sunlight and limit daylight hours using a cage cover. This may stop his mating behavior if that is what it is. Limit any interaction, such as beak wrestling, that may foster mating behavior as well.

This does not sound as if this is a "happy" behavior, but sexually mature birds will sometimes regurgitate to mates. Most conures become sexually mature after 1-2 years of age, at the earliest. Other reason for head bobbing and regurgitation behavior is illness or a foreign body in the crop. If Opal continues to regurgitate, you should seek out an avian veterinarian for an examination. If it only happens when you pet the neck, try not touching the area for a few days to see if the regurgitation behavior subsides.
