Why are my cockatiel's eyes swollen, watery, and losing feathers?

The cause of the swelling could eventually originate from the conjunctiva but from other eye structures as well.Swelling per se' could be caused by a damage of the surface of the eye (corneal ulceration). Inflammations (from allergies or trauma) or infection are both possible. Immediate check up is absolutely needed at your local veterinarian. Antibiotics may be needed in case of an infection.

I am sorry your bird is not feeling well. Typically upper respiratory infections are not contagious however it will determine what is the cause. Some viruses and bacteria can be contagious to other birds but unlikely people. However if your bird is underweight it is important to get the bird to a vet for some blood work. Typically birds loose weight due to underlying disease like infection. I would make sure you always offer clean food and water. Hope that helps

If there was no veterinary exam, fecal, or blood work done beforehand, then there’s no guarantee that the birds you acquired weren’t harboring some disease that may only show itself in times of stress (like entering a new aviary, reproduction, etc). Since you already have many birds, their health is potentially at risk and I would recommend having a veterinarian evaluate the new birds. At minimum a physical exam and fecal should be done, but consider Chlamydia screening, blood work, fecal gram stain. Other infectious disease tests can be done but your vet can recommend what they feel is indicated. Good luck!

A more fluffed up appearance is usually symptomatic of high temperature which can cause lethargy as well. High temperature is usually caused by an infection which is very often of respiratory origin. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. Crestwood Animal Hospital in your area is listed as possibly seeing exotics/birds so you may want to give them a call if Rococo continues to act ill. In the meantime, keeping him warm in a separated hospital cage from your other birds, and eating and drinking may help with any illness. If the eye has any discharge, keeping it clean with a warm washcloth and free of debris may also help. You can also look for parasites or other skin issues around the eye that may need to be treated.
