My chicken breathes with mouth open and makes noise. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 2 months and 9 days old

Hi! My chicken doesn't seem well, she's opening her mouth to breath, is making noises when she breath. It's like if she had pneumonia or something in her lungs like a lot of mucus. We are giving her 'Chemitril' for three days now and she seems to just get worse. What can I do?

It sounds like a severe respiratory infection, it could be viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic. I strongly recommend that you contact an avian or poultry vet in your area in order to provide her proper treatment.
