My chicken is limping and her leg bends forward. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

Hey, my chicken seems injured and I don't know what to do. Earlier this week she started limping so we separated her from the group to prevent any more injury. She's walking better now but her "knee" seems to be bending forward. I don't see any swelling and her toes seem to be fine. Maybe I'm missing something. Any advice would be appreciated.

It's possible your hen may have an injury to the leg such as a sprain or break, or even a potential nutrient deficiency causing weakness. If the leg isn't improving on its own, seeking veterinary care to have it looked at by a vet is best. They may be able to figure out the issue or create a brace while the leg heals to make sure it stays in the proper position.
