Do pet birds need vaccinations or regular vet shots for their health?

It is a good idea to take your bird for a wellness check at an avian veterinarian at least once a year, better every 6 months. This should help to catch all health issues in time. And of course, if you think your bird is ill, you should also take him to a vet right away.

Guinea pigs don’t need any vaccinations but it’s a good idea to take them to see your vet for yearly check ups, to monitor weight, teeth, claws, skin, feeding routines etc. Also find details of a good exotic vet where you could take them for any particular condition that your vet might not be able to treat or advise you on. In general Guinea pigs have only a few health issues if compared to other animal species. Hope this helps !

The cage set up appears to be appropriate for two parakeets. As suggested by your friend, it is always recommended to have any new pets examined by a veterinarian to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre existing conditions.

I do not recommend giving them mediations unless they are sick. Giving birds antibiotics to prevent illness can cause vomiting and diarrhea which can be fatal. I recommend keeping the cage clean and proper diet with water. If they become ill you can always take them to a vet for better advice.

Without a physical exam, it is difficult to determine if amputation is needed. If so, this is not something that should be attempted at home. Most general practice veterinarians will be able to assess the bird's injuries and dispense medication for pain or infection. Although it would be ideal, you don't "need" an avian vet.
