My bird has diarrhea and vomiting after antibiotics. What should I do?

Unfortunately a medication can't be prescribed without an exam in person, and without knowing the cause of the vomiting and diarrhea. Parasites, nutritional issues, obstructions or problems with the GI tract, illness, etc can all be possible causes that all require different treatments. It would be best to bring the baby bird to a vet ASAP, especially if they are dehydrated or unable to keep food down, so that the cause can be found and treatment started.

Anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) medications can be given by injection, so might reduce/stop regurgitation, that can then allow oral medications to be given. Subcutaneous fluids might have to be given to maintain hydration. Were follow up radiographs taken after the initial ones? A gastrointestinal foreign body must still be considered. Good luck.

Diarrhoea could be a quite severe sign in birds especially if associated with lethargy and weakness as you described. Gastrointestinal infections (caused by bacteria or parasites most commonly) usually are responsible for this presentation. A veterinary visit needs to be arranged to assist with a diagnostics/treatment plan, as different conditions are treated with different medications/procedures. Thanks for your question about Sara, and thanks for the photos as well. I would agree that the droppings do not appear normal. The feces look to be very dark, and there is extra urine present. If Sara's feces are typically dark, this can be related to diet, but when we see dark feces in birds, we become concerned that it may be digested blood (called melena). The increase in urine may occur if she was drinking a lot, but we also become concerned about stress and how the kidneys are working. This, combined with the vomiting would make me concerned that Sara is sick. Even though the signs have cleared, I would recommend having Sara evaluated by a veterinarian. The medication that you are giving currently is a vitamin supplement, but if there is something more serious going on, it will not be sufficient to treat it. Depending on what your veterinarian finds on examination, they may recommend evaluating a sample of the feces to see whether there is blood in it or not, and may recommend a blood test to evaluate the kidneys. Without examining your bird in person, or knowing any other symptoms beside "loose stool" it would be impossible to tell what is going on with Kiwi. If she is listless and doesn't seem to be doing well, or has an infection, speaking with the vet that examined her and prescribed the antibiotic syrup is best as they will best know her case history. Keeping her warm, in a clean cage, and with easy access to food and water can help. Making sure she is eating a balanced diet and not just sunflower seeds (which are very fatty and could be causing the diarrhea) can also help to get her feeling better. If the medication isn't helping or she isn't feeling better, seeking another appointment in person is best.

Unfortunately, the symptoms you described are very vague signs of illness, so it would be hard to say what is going on without an exam in person. It's good that you're keeping her separated, and I would do so by keeping her in a warm hospital cage to see if that helps her improve. It's possible the diarrhea could be due to a diet change and the stress of coming to a new home, so giving her a day or two to see if she improves may help. Checking for parasites, and making sure she's on a balanced diet (removing any snacks or fruits and veggies for a few days if she has GI upset) may also help. As for the toe, that is very common in commercially bred birds. If it is causing trouble I would have it examined when you are able, but provide low, flat perches and platforms for her to hang out on in the meantime. This can help her stretch the toe and have a place to relax without losing balance. If she doesn't improve in a day or so, or seems to get worse, it is best to try and find a bird vet in your area that can see her right away.
