Why did my bird die after laying an egg, vomiting, and convulsing?

I'm sorry to hear your bird passed away. It is possible she was ill and had an underlying illness-- as birds are great at hiding being sick until it's too late sometimes, or there was a nutritional issue such as not enough calcium or nutrition that led to starvation or egg binding (a stuck egg in the body). Making sure your birds are getting a complete balanced diet and extra calcium can help prevent these issues, however if you have any other birds that are also acting ill, separating them to a hospital cage and seeking care in person is best.

Sorry about your bird. First thoughts are a respiratory infection, causing the wings to held outwards, then respiratory collapse. Respiratory problems can be caused by inhaled toxins, infections (bacterial, viral, fungal), metabolic disorder (liver, renal), and others. In the photo of her before she passed away, she appears very fluffed and sitting low on your head. These both are indicators that a bird doesn’t feel well. Since they are prey animals, they are very good at hiding their illness, even from their family members like you. The blood in the droppings could have originated from numerous areas in her body. These include her intestinal tract, her urinary tract, and her reproductive tract. With an issue in any of these areas, she could have had problems that were severe enough that they could have led to her death. I am so sorry again for your loss - she was a very cute bird.

Birds are very good at hiding illness until they're VERY sick, so it may be that there wasn't anything else you could have done. Thanks for reaching out, but am sorry for your loss. There are lots of possibilities, but a non-avian veterinarian would have been a better choice than breeders. Coccidiosis would have resulted in diarrhea. Unfortunately only a necropsy can give definitive answers. Bacterial or viral infections, metabolic disorders such as liver or kidney problems, toxicities are only a few possibilities. Good luck.

She could have another egg stuck in her, it's very common in birds and it is called being egg bound, you will need to take her to an avian vet specialist urgently otherwise she is not likely to survive.

Sorry to hear about Prittybird. Any chance of an inhaled toxin, such as near the kitchen and your cook with Teflon? Scented candles, air fresheners and other inhaled products can cause acute death. Other than that, a post mortem examination might give you better answers.
