What to do if my bird is on cage bottom, not moving, struggling to breathe?

My bird is sitting on the bottom of her cage struggling to breath and not moving.

I am so sorry to hear about Birdy. Any time that a bird is on the bottom of the cage it is concerning, and especially if she is not moving and having trouble breathing. Birdy needs to go to a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will provide her with oxygen, heat support, and may administer medications to her. Birds that are as sick as Birdy sounds are in critical condition, and unfortunately may not do well with handling. This can cause them to pass away suddenly with very minimal stress - I am not saying that this will happen to Birdy, but it is a potential, so I want to try to prepare you for that.
I am so sorry that this is happening, and I hope that you are able to get her into a veterinarian very soon.

    Respiratory distress is a medical emergency that can not be dealt with effectively at home. Your bird may require immediate medical attention from a veterinarian who can provide oxygen and other therapies as needed. Hope this helps.

Hello. I am sorry that Bobo isn't feeling well. It does sound like Bobo is very very sick. I would recommend having him to a vet right away. Birds do not show they are sick unless they are severely compromised, and a parakeet sitting on the bottom of a cage breathing hard could be near death. It also sounds like Bobo might be suffering. If you can get him to a vet right away I would suggest this. Best of luck with Bobo.

I'm sorry that your bird is so ill. This is a definite respiratory emergency. Could be an inhaled toxin like from Teflon or smoke oor a serious infection. Your bird needs heat, oxygen and ER care. Keep warm and upright until you can get to the vet. Do not try to give the bird anymore to eat or drink. Good luck with your sweet baby.

I am sorry birdie is not feeling well. I usually get concerned when birds are sitting at the bottom of the cage or having changes in behavior. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian just to be on the safe side he is healthy and not becoming sick. A range of issues can cause birdie to become ill so a vet visit is best.

Those are all very general signs of illness in a bird. It would be a good idea to get Blue to a vet as soon as possible to try and determine what may be causing his symptoms. Until you can get to your vet, keeping him in a warm hospital cage with low/no perches and food and water that is easy to get in and out of may help.

Thanks for reaching out about Bato. He needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible, so this probably means as an emergency. On the bottom of the cage and ataxic (unable to stand) can be due to ingested/inhaled toxins, metabolic disorders (liver, kidney), heart problems, malnutrition, infectious diseases (viral, bacterial) and other causes. A diagnosis is needed to properly treat. Providing heat support can give some aid but is not a treatment. Offering water through a syringe might determine if strong enough to swallow. Good luck.

I would recommend taking your bird to the vet as soon as you are able. Respiratory disease can be very serious, especially in small birds. If you have the capability to nebulize at home it could be helpful until you can get her seen. You veterinarian may recommend performing X-rays to help determine what is going on. I hope this helps.
