My baby chick can't stand or walk, and its knees are swollen. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Chicken | Male | unneutered | 0.265 lbs

Baby chicken. Eats well. Seems quite sick. Feathers shedding and dirty as I can't give it a bath during illness. Left leg and right leg's finger bitten by parrot. Wounds healed, but he can't stand. Stands on knees, knees swollen. Can't walk. How do I heal him?

Thanks for reaching out about Chika and including photos. First thought is the bitten toes were an access site for bacteria that settled in the joints or the trauma of the bites allowed a sub-clinical infection to manifest. Mycoplasma gallinaceum is a common joint infection in thickens. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Warm compresses on the joints can help lower the swellings.
Good luck.
