My African Grey laid an egg, is quiet & not eating. What to do?

All parts of the avocado plant are considered toxic and should be avoided. This includes oil pressed from avocados. Limiting exposure to light and decreasing daylight hours may halt her egg laying. Use a cage cover in the late afternoon or early evening. Decreasing room temperature by a few degrees may also help. If she continues with egg laying, she may need to be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian. In severe cases of chronic egg laying, hormone injections may be indicated.

3 hours without eating isn't a major concern, but if Pepper is continuing to worsen and isn't improving with home care, it sounds like she needs to be seen by a vet. Unfortunately, you already seem to be doing all of the at-home care that would help without further examination to determine what is going on with her. If she just laid the eggs, that is a stressor on the body so she could just be quiet and recovering from that, however if she doesn't perk back up, or seems to worsen, then trying to find a vet near you is best, even if they don't specifically see birds.

It's very hard to tell, she would need to be taken to an avian vet specialist to get calcium injections, SC fluids and also have an xray done to make sure no damage has been done and that no more eggs are inside her.

Feed a good quality pelleted diet (Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or Exact) supplemented with a fortified seed mix and fresh greens and vegetables. Provide a cuttlebone or mineral block. Always have fresh water available. Provide an appropriately sized nesting box and suitable nesting material (straw, Aspen shaving, shredded newspaper, etc.).

Female conures will lay eggs even in the absence of a male. Don't remove the eggs as this will cause her to continue laying. Provide a commercial pelleted diet (Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or Exact) supplemented with a fortified seed mix and fresh greens and vegetables. Place a cuttlebone or mineral block in her cage as well for extra calcium. Limit exposure to daylight and drop room temperature by a few degrees to get her out of egg laying mode. Leave the eggs in the cage for at least 2 weeks or until she loses interest in them. You can also replace the real eggs with "dummy" eggs. Find them in the Bird Section of the local Petco. The plucking can be caused by stress, boredom or infection (bacterial, fungal or parasites). Consider having her examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian to diagnose and treat any underlying medical condition. The tail bobbing may indicate difficulty breathing which should also be addressed by your veterinarian. In the meantime, clean and sanitize the cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Use paper towels on the cage bottom and change them daily. Bathe or mist her with warm water to encourage preening and to promote healthy plumage. Provide a variety of toys and puzzle feeders as well as play time outside of the cage to keep her from plucking.

If Jasmine seems to be looking for the egg or is still broody, you can give her a dummy egg to sit on (wooden egg or golf ball). Make sure Jasmine is eating a balanced diet of about 75% pellets and the rest nuts, seeds, fresh vegetables and fruit. If she only eats seeds, this is a very deficient diet and she should have a multivitamin and calcium supplement until she can be transitioned into pellets. She may also lay more eggs. The frequency of egg laying can be hard to predict in some birds, and others are very routine. If you don’t want her to lay - here are risks associated with eggs getting stuck, calcium imbalances, etc - your veterinarian can give her an injection to help down regulate her reproductive activity. I am sorry karani is not feeling well. I would recommend trying to get her to a vet as soon as possible. My concern would be hypocalcaemia. This is where their calcium is low in there blood stream. Birds are prone to low calcium because they used a lot to make eggs and bone health. I would recommend trying to force feed slowly and add in a calcium supplement. keeping her clam and relaxed is also important
