Food & NutritionI am currently feeding my 2.5 year old dog and 6 month old puppy grain free kibble. I’ve read some articles that say grain free may potentially cause heart problems. What is your thoughts on using gran free foods? And if you recommend to avoid them,
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Grain free is bad! Vets are seeing an increase in dogs developing dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs fed grain free diets, and the FDA is now investigating that link. Honestly, grain free is a marketing ploy, grain allergies in dogs is actually vary rare. Your 2.5 year old dog needs to be on an adult food, and the puppy on a puppy food. Definitely switch from the grain free. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Iams (Eukanuba). They are the only four brands that run their own feeding trials, meet AAFCO feeding standards, and have veterinary nutritionists on staff. I hope this helps!
