What's the best affordable healthy cat food for indoor/outdoor cats? Dry or wet?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think the Purina Pro Plan diets are very good and also affordable. Both dry and wet diets are equally good in general especially for younger cats. I prefer wet food in older cats when I am concerned about kidney disease just to increase the water content in the diet. Good luck and have a great day!

Is dry cat food really the best way to keep my cat's teeth healthy?

It is a common misconception that dry food is better for teeth than wet foods. Once a cat takes a bite of the kibble and crunches it, there is no advantage in mechanically or abrasively cleaning the teeth. Exceptions come into play with certain prescription diets, such as Hill’s t/d, which have been proven to mechanically clean the teeth. The Veterinary Oral Health Council (www.vohc.org) rates the variety of dental diets and treats on the market with respect to their efficacy in controlling plaque and/or tartar. At the end of the day, daily tooth brushing is the best preventative measure for keeping a cat’s teeth healthy.

What dry food is best for cats with sensitive teeth & wet food brands?

Great question! Royal Canin has a dry food that is for cats with sensitive teeth, and I will put a link below for it. As for differences between brands, yes there are ones. Cheaper foods will not have as good quality ingredients as the most expensive brands of food, making the price lower. In addition, certain brands of food like Royal Canin and Hill's Science Diet have veterinary nutritionists on staff to ensure the food is formulated to meet the needs of the cat; not all cat food brands have this. Friskies is not one of the supermarket brands I recommend, I personally prefer Purina. Higher quality brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Is it safe to leave dry food out for my kitten? Best dental treats?

I wouldn't worry about dry food being left out unless it's not being finished in a couple of days. Your vet may carry Virbac Dental treats or Greenies for cats, either one of those should help keep her teeth clean and be a tasty treat.

Why do breeders say dry cat food is bad? My cat prefers it now.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Dry is fine for cats. Some feel that canned cat food is more ideal due to the extra moisture content and because cats are more carnivorous than dogs. Canned food is best for cats with underlying urinary issues. With that being said if Noushmc prefers dry then that is what you should offer her. I wouldn't be concerned. Have a good day!
