Thanks for reaching out about Akio. You are correct in that sunflower seeds and corn are a terrible diet for birds, the equivalent of drinking cooking oil and eating white bread. No vitamins, minerals, protein and other essential nutrients. Try measuring what you place in the bowl every morning, say 4 tablespoons. The next morning, same time, measure what is left over, say 2 tablespoons. Therefore he is consuming 2 T a day. Offering 1 tablespoon in morning, and one in early evening. In a second bowl, offer human food (vegetables, some fruit, pasta, beans, whatever). Eating your food in front of him, offering by hand or visualize you placing in the food bowl. Give it time. Trust and persistence is the issue. Good luck.

Hello again! These items look great for King, but the bag is correct - generally, parakeets and parrots should be fed a pellet-based diet to avoid fatty liver disease. Seed diets are high in fat (even without the sunflower seeds), so should be given as a treat supplementally only. Millet should also be given in moderation. Your bird can definitely have fruits, but include some veggies, too! Grapes, apple, banana, broccoli, kale, green beans, and peppers can be great for birds. Avoid avocado, apple cores/seeds, cherries (with seeds - seedless are ok) onion, and garlic. Dried fruits are ok too, just avoid the ones that have added sugar. I hope this helps! Good luck with King!

If his behavior is unusual or any symptoms (such as changes to the stool and lethargic behavior) are worsening, seeking a vet visit in person is always best to rule out issues such as GI upset, illness, etc. Adding a little grit to the diet may also help better breakdown seeds in his food and allow him to digest/pass them more easily. Sometimes, parasites can look like seeds in the stool, so having a vet take a look and checking for any parasites may also be a good idea. As for fresh fruits and veggies, birds can sometimes be picky about what they eat. The best rule of thumb is to keep offering them until your bird finally gets curious enough to try it. He may find a new favorite!

Most parrots will usually pick the less healthy bits if given that option. the solution is to gradually switch her to bird pellets (e.g. pretty bird), i usually recommend doing it in a course of 10 days. the first day you keep 90% of the old food and put in 10% of the pellets. every day you increase the pellets by 10%. by day 10 you remain with 100% pellets.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! I recommend providing both grain/seed mix or pelleted feed and fruits/veggies every day. It is not necessary to provide fruit and veggies daily as these are considered enrichment, and not necessary for nutritional requirements. Keep in mind that budgies tend to be neophobic, or do not like new things in their environments, so they may not respond well to new food items. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
