This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. If your vet has no objections, he should readily write you a prescription so you can purchase the medication at any pharmacy you wish to use.
