My cat was bit by another cat on his tail and it got infected. He won't take his oral antibiotic. Can I put an antibiotic on his wound/skin called Baneocin?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'd call your Vet tomorrow and ask if they have the injectable antibiotic called convenia. I think that will solve you having to medicate Cinco. But yes the ointment baneocin should be ok, just prevent him from licking it. It may not be enough, especially if your Vet felt he needed to be on oral antibiotics. Good luck!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco! I would recommend making sure he does not have an underlying disease that may be predisposing him to these infections. Test him for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) at your veterinarian's clinic to rule these possible causes out. Some cats will have chronic viral infections their entire life and we just treat these as they come. If you are not giving lysine supplementation and not giving Purine Fortiflora, I would definitely recommend doing so as both of these have been shown to lessen the severity and duration of the herpes virus flare ups. I would also consider an upper respiratory culture to make sure that there are no other bacterial causes that may be resistant to the antibiotics currently being given. I hope this helps! I took my cat to the groomer because he won't clean his butt. After a shave of the area, they said it looks like he has an infection. Would a PetCo vet be willing to give him antibiotics?
If your PetCO has a veterinary facility you can bring your cat for an exam and then the veterinarian there will prescribe the appropriate medication. I am afraid antibiotics can only be prescribed after a veterinary exam.

Hello. It sounds like Bean has an ear infection so the Baytril Otic would be used for that. Famciclovir is an anti viral medication generally used to treat feline herpes virus, a very common upper respiratory infection in cats. The Erythromycin Ophthalmic is an antibiotic for the eyes, so the vet is being very through in treating your kitties. Hopefully, everyone will be feeling better soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Can I give a cat people antibiotics
My short answer is no. Cats are very small compared to humans and the dosing is completely different. This is not a safe approach. Plus, antibiotics should never be given without a prescription by a veterinarian, as inappropriate use can lead to bacterial resistance, which can cause more serious problems.
