Vet authorized diets are typically needed only when a pet has specific health issues, but learning about how they're different from "normal" foods can help you be a more well-rounded pet parent.

Kirito is adorable. Thanks for including a picture. I'm glad to hear that it sounds like he is already improving, but I would recommend giving the medication. Metronidazole is an antibiotic, but it specifically works well to decrease inflammation in the large intestine and help resolve diarrhea, so I would recommend giving it as directed to help resolve the diarrhea. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Kirito's diarrhea resolves soon. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Thanks for reaching out about Thicket and including photos. Metronidazole is a fairly good broad spectrum antibiotic with some anti-parasitic (flagellates) activity. But no antibiotics treats everything and if the clinical signs are not improving, adding a second antibiotics might be helpful. Monitor environmental temperatures and humidity. Keeping nutritional intact high will also help. Good luck.

Yes, you can mix the metronidazole with the canned food. If he doesn't let you syringe the medication into him orally, then mixing it into the food is the only way you'll be able to medicate him. Do the best you can to get at least the metronidazole into him, as this is most likely to stop the diarrhea. Good luck!

Metronidazole is used as an antibiotic against anaerobic bacteria in aquaria as well as an antiprotozoal medication. Dosing will depend on the concentration of the product as well as the size of the tank. Follow label directions carefully and remove the carbon filter insert during treatment.

Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco. I am sorry to hear that Beau is having diarrhea. Since, Beau has only been on metronidazole for one day, I would continue it as it may not have started to work yet. It typically takes 24-48 hours to see any changes. However, if Beau stops eating, is lethargic or has blood in his stool, I would reach out to your veterinarian again and let them know. Beau may need another physical exam or other medications. Here is an article on diarrhea in cats that may be helpful for you and Beau: https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-in-cats/ Good luck and I hope he feels better soon!
