Hi, I'm a former vet tech.My Dog has contracted giardia twice this year. Is Metronidazole less than 6 months old safe to give? What probiotic would you recommend? Thank you so much for your time and effort. Respectfully, Deirdre
Yes, Metronidazole is safe to give pets that are less than 6 months old. In refractory cases, it is often recommended to also treat with a dewormer (i.e. Fenbendazole). I really like Foriflora probiotic, here is a link --> https://www.chewy.com/purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets/dp/50029 In cases where a pet is positive for Giardia but not symptomatic, we may not treat, so its best to ask your veterinarian for advice before moving forward. Also if your pet is constantly getting Giardia, then I would highly consider doing a bloodwork check to ensure there is no immune system issue that is making your pet more prone to infections. I need to give my cat a pill for the first time and am not comfortable with putting it directly in her mouth, and unsure how to do this. Do you have any suggestions? Is it okay to try to grind it up in her food? It is metronidazole
Yes we do. I would definitely use either pill pockets (from your local pet store) or a pill gun (can be purchased from the pet store as well- check your local listings or your vet). You can try to mix it with some tuna. Metronidazole is ok to grind up if needed. Best of luck!

My dog pooped out round worms today morning and feel asleep aftr that. Doctor prescribed him metronidazolde benzoate oral suspension ip. He also has hicups. Is their something wrong
Hello. No, this sounds pretty normal for a puppy ( many will experience bouts of hiccups ). However, metronidazole is an antibiotic & will do nothing for the roundworms. Ask your vet about this & make sure Hachiko receives something like pyrantel pamoate to remove all the roundworms from her GI tract. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
