Hello, and thank you for your question. The most important thing to look for in a pet food is an AAFCO label, which tells you that the diet went through either a clinical trial or met a certain minimum standard when formulating the diet. This will ensure that the diet is complete and balanced. As far as specific brands, I like Royal Canin and Science Diet as reliable, high quality pet store brands. They do have specific wet diets for senior cats. I hope this helps, and that Lilly is happy and healthy!
Royal canin is significantly cheaper than Orijen, you might not be looking at the same bag size, just as an example from amazon- 17 lbs royal canin costs on amazon 41$, 13 lbs Orijen costs 61$: https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Foods-Orijen-Fish-Pound/dp/B01N2UB9PA/ref=pd_sim_199_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N2UB9PA&pd_rd_r=GBAQE7TYS67TAKYBRW6B&pd_rd_w=KikWg&pd_rd_wg=LKM7c&psc=1&refRID=GBAQE7TYS67TAKYBRW6B https://www.amazon.com/Royal-Canin-NUTRITION-Shepherd-30-Pound/dp/B0169JCDJ6/ref=sr_1_4?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1527739393&sr=1-4&th=1
Foods in the US need to be regulated under AAFCO standards to be complete and nutritionally balanced, so most foods will do a good job of making sure your pet stays healthy and happy. Specialist foods generally are designed to treat an issue, such as a food allergy or a health problem, and are beneficial for pets that need it. As for the prescription diets your vet sells, these are specially formulated to help treat a specific medical condition like a prescription medication would. They are prescription-only because of this, and sometimes cost a bit more because a lot more research and formulation (and sometimes unique ingredients) goes into them to make them able to treat a health condition. In many cases, your vet can send a prescription for this food to an online pet store or pharmacy so you can purchase the product cheaper.
Hello. You have quite a very handsome group of pups! The best dog foods most vets will recommend are those made by Purina, Hill's Science Diet & Royal Canin. I personally feed mine Purina One True Instincts. These may not be the very cheapest foods out there, but they are definitely more reasonable than the incredibly high priced boutique foods which are no better than the basics. Hope your guys do well & thanks for using Boop by Petco.
I like Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin & Stomach. I have had many clients rave at how good it is for dogs with sensitive skin. You could also try Purina One SmartBlend Sensitive Systems but I don't as much experience with clients using it. It is much less expensive that the ProPlan.
