I'm Gabby, this is my betta blue, I got him about 2 weeks ago from Petco and I'm very worried about him. In his tank, I had a fake plant that supposedly was silk but I guess it wasn't and it really harmed his fins, I took it out but now his fins look
Thanks for reaching out about Blue and including photos. Fins can re-generate but water quality must be kept pristine. Test and correct for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Water additives such as anti-bacterials or others can cause more harm than good. If the fins become worse, a veterinary visit is needed. Good luck.

My fish has fin rot and seems lethargic. He will just sit at the bottom of his tank or in his flower. He might also have a swim bladder issue. What can I do to fix him?
Check the water chemistry and quality first. Poor quality can predispose him to infection. Use a home test kit or submit a water sample for testing. Your local Petco may do this for free or for a small fee. If ammonia and/or nitrite levels are elevated, perform partial water changes until both read 0 ppm and nitrates are 20 ppm or less. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent further stress or shock. Providing pristine water quality is the foundation for treatment and healing. Check the water temperature since low temps can affect appetite and activity in fish. If the water is too warm, it can also affect activity since warm water does not hold as much oxygen as cooler waters. Fast the fish for 2-3 days then feed tiny bits of cooked and shelled green peas. This will aid in defecation if there is constipation. Thanks for reaching out. If is a good idea to fast for 1-2 days prior to shipment, this decreased feces and will help to keep the ammonia down. Typically clear bags are utilized with about 50% water, and 50% air/oxygen used. A local pet store might be able to assist, as they get shipment in (so have older bags and boxes, which need to be disinfected) and hopefully the skills to ship. Check with the airline also, box needs to be well labelled "LIE ANIMALS" and "THIS END UP". Sometimes a health certificate for interstate travel is needed, so contact airline and State of Utah, veterinarian. Good luck.

Alteration can lead to increased mucous production from the skin (white stuff), but fungal dermatitis or parasites are also possible. i have a question, we recently got glofish as a gift to my mother. I bought the water conditioner, food, plants and a volcano to decorate the tank, its a 5 gallon tank so they would have alot of room to swim. But all 5 fish, just stay at the bottom
Thanks for your question about your fish, and congratulations on your new family members! I didn't see how recently the tank was set up, but there are a couple of things that could be going on. I would start by checking your water quality - any abnormalities in water quality can make fish have abnormal behaviors, and the water looks a bit murky in the photos you provided. There may be parameters that need to be addressed depending on what you find. If you do not have a water quality kit, they can be purchased at the pet store or an aquarium store, or you can take a sample of your water in for evaluation to these places as well. Some will charge a small fee for this service, just so you are prepared. Also, with recent tank set ups, it can be stressful for fish as they are in a new habitat. I would recommend keeping the light on for only a few hours per day to start, as the bright lights can be shocking for them (since fish don't have eyelids). Gradually you can increase the length of t
