Just purchased and used I time couple days ago for local fireworks on 70 lb dog. Administered a little too late, (15 min. prior). Took 30 min to take effect, but worked great.

No, I do not recommend this product.

My 11-yr old gun-shy coonhound is petrified of loud noises, so Independence Day is a challenge. Tried all kinds of "calming chews" in the past. At best, they made him sleepy but still afraid, and at worst they contained brewers' yeast and other apparent allergens that induced ear infections). HomePet Fireworks contains no such allergens, so it was a last resort. I was admittedly late in dosing him (some fireworks had begun, so he had already started trembling and dove down into the basement. Tried to administer directly into his mouth, but wasn't sure how much he ingested since he was already drooling and may have spit some out. So I put drops on his favorite wet food, and he ate it right up. I admit that I may have over dosed him, but knowingly did so because 1) he already had a full stomach, so I worried the effect would take a while; and 2) he was already so scared. He stayed in the basement a little while, then shocked us by coming upstairs to hang out while fireworks continued. We even had some windows open for cool breeze, but the sounds he thinks are gunshots did not cause him to shake and hide anymore. Nor did HomeoPet Fireworks make him drowsy, so the advertising is accurate. We have been watching for any negative effects, but see none. We are pleased with this product. It has apparently been available many years, so I should note that our package states "New & Improved Formula."

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought this product because I was impressed by the fact that it was approved by the fda. I gave my dog several doses as recommended in the dosing instructions, however it did not live up to my expectations in calming my dog. She was just as jittery and upset as ever. I feel like I just wasted my money in buying this product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I don't believe this is a full cure for canine anxiety; however, I did notice a considerable difference when used over the 4th of July in comparison to New Years Eve. I could see her possibly getting used to it, but for the price, definitely worth a shot.

Yes, I recommend this product.

One of the ingredients listed is 'Borax'. Borax is toxic to dogs (and people). Why is it included in this product?

  1. Its a salt must be in there to preserve the product I guess it depends on the amount? Borax is the common name for the chemical sodium tetraborate. It is a salt of boric acid. Powdered borax consists of soft white crystals that dissolve in water. Many people know borax as a cleaning product. However, it has many other uses, including: treating mold and mildew killing insects softening hard water neutralizing odors acting as a fire retardant Also, many household products contain borax, including soaps and detergents. Manufacturers sometimes use borax to prevent or slow bacterial growth in cosmetic products, such as shampoo, makeups, and body soaps. In some cosmetics, manufacturers use borax as an emulsifier to stop products’ ingredients from separating.

Can this product be taken with apoquel and meloxicam for dogs?

I'd have to give my dog 15 drops at a time; how many doses would this bottle provide?

    1. It says on the box min 450 drops

How long do the effects last on average.

    1. Hi Tvh1957, weight (lb) drops per dose animals less than 1 lb 2 in at least 8 oz of water 1-20 5 21-60 10 61-100 15 over 100 20 DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Dose medicine directly into mouth, in water or at meal/snack time. A full dose may be given every 15 minutes up to 4 doses if needed, before or during fireworks. For pets home alone, put 2 doses in water bowl, as they drink they will continue to be treated. Dosing may be repeated as recommended above throughout the day if multiple stressful situations occur. Remedy only needs to be used if pet is anxious. Thanks

I'm concerned! Borax is in this????????

    1. This is a homeopathic remedy. Homeopathic ingredients have been diluted many, many, many times, and are very safe. I don't think there has EVER been a case of a side-effect or reaction to homeopathics. They arise from the concept of "like cures like". So what might cause symptoms in regular doses, when diluted intensively, will cure a body from those same symptoms.
