Poor Quality Control of Split Elk Antler Dog Chew

Darren CS

I purchased this elk antler 5 days ago. It was the largest split antler the store had and is intended for large dogs. My dog is a 14-lb Basenji, and she consumed this antler within 3 days, was ill the entire 4th day and still recovering today (day 5). I have never seen such a poor quality of antler before, whether it be an elk or deer antler. The antler tissue was about as soft as beef bone. This elk antler splintered after Luna had scraped all the soft marrow out of the split section. Given my previous purchases and the size of this antler, it should have lasted 3-4 months easily. If Luna is not feeling well by tomorrow, I'll definitely need to take her to our veterinarian for a stomach and intestinal ultrasound. I'll be returning the 2 remaining pieces to the store tomorrow, speaking with the manager and requesting either a refund or a replacement. But I'm a bit dubious of the quality of antlers Petco is sourcing. Poor quality control at a price of $25.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Waste of money

I bought 2 of these less than a week ago and one is already in one small sharp piece, the other is half gone but that one was chewed by my 16 WEEK OLD PUPPY GSD. I’ve never had an antler chewed that quickly by any of my GSD’s. It says aggressive chewer on it, but clearly that’s wrong. Total waste of money. Only getting one star because my dogs actually wanted to chew them. Total rip off.

Broke apart into 3 sharp pieces right away. Cost was way too high considering the quality!

Use with caution .... can cause dental fractures

KH2022

After my 2 year old puppy (Aussie) was diagnosed with a slab fracture/abcess at her 2 year old annual exam that resulted in an almost $1000 dental surgery to repair, I won't be giving them to my puppies again. He said to avoid NylaBone and something else first and then I asked about antlers and he said he doesn't recommend those either. YMMV, they certainly did enjoy them, but I can't risk their teeth any further.

No, I do not recommend this product.
