Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this prescription diet for effectively managing feline hyperthyroidism, with many reporting normalized thyroid levels, weight gain, reduced vomiting, and increased energy—often eliminating the need for medication. Reviewers describe dramatic health improvements within weeks, with some calling it life-saving. Most cats, even picky eaters, readily accept the dry kibble. Some customers express frustration with recent formula changes causing digestive issues and stock shortages, but the dominant sentiment reflects deep gratitude and high satisfaction with long-term health outcomes.

Cats like the kibble. They do not like the canned at all!

My cat really likes it. His GI issues are doing well. His itchy skin is still a problem, so it hasn’t helped that, so that rules out food allergy. Same results from Royal Canin HP, but he stopped liking it and definitely prefers z/d now.

I bought this for my cat about three weeks ago, he loves it, too soon to tell if it is helping his allergies or not but no complaints yet.

Good choice for picky eaters

I have my 13yo cat on this food per recommendation by the animal dermatologist we go to. I dont know if it helps with his nails much (they become inflamed, brittle, and flake off) but it does help his coat stay soft and silky. He is generally a picky boy but loves this food so i'll keep him on it. Ingredients are items you can identify which I look for in a pet food. Kibble size is round and small which my old fella also likes. I would recommend this food for any owner trying to get their cats coat and skin closer to normal.

Need more choices

My kitty started on the hills prescription thyroid care about one week ago. He’ll eat the dry but he’s always liked wet food better. Unfortunately, there is only one thyroid Care wet food and it’s like pate but thicker. My cat does not like this at all, but it is forced to eat it for now. I wish hills would make a few different choices for the thyroid care and also some thyroid care treats.

Making the food more palatable for your cat

Recommendation for making food more palatable for your cat Our cat Jimmy was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and IBD. We have been feeding him Hills ZD dry and canned. It has been a challenge to get him to eat. Here’s what I recommend based on Jimmy’s acceptance of his new diet. 1. Scoop small amounts of half of the can into a large cup. 2. Add 6 teaspoons of hot water. 3. Add a quarter cup of dry ZD and Royal Canin HP to the cup. 4. Add small amounts of the rest of the can into the cup. 5. Use a hand-held blender to mix up the food. Scoop the mixture back into the can. This process adds texture and more flavor. Jimmy LOVES it. It really does work.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

What is the difference between the d/d formula and z/d? Both say for food sensitivity, but I am having an easier time finding z/d in sock rather then the d/d my vet prescribed. Can I substitute one for the other?

Could a 7 month old kitten eat the dry food but still eat wet kitten food?  Our adult cat needs to eat the prescription food but trying to feed them separately is causing neither of them to eat

    1. Yes. Should not be a problem. We do the same with ours

Can you feed this to kittens?

    1. Thank you for your question. Prescription Diet® z/d® is formulated to meet the needs of an adult cat. Hill's Pet Nutrition

Does the Hills Z/D dry food have more than one flavor?

    1. no
