I think my dog has a “hotspot” on his head. I was hoping you could give me some examples of things I can get at the store or around the house to help it it heal. I would like to avoid the vet because I do not have that kind of money right now. Thanks
I am sorry to hear about Hunter. This does look like it could be a hot spot. Sometimes topical treatment alone is enough, but sometimes we may need a short course of antibiotics and steroids to clean it up. They can also be painful so I am not sure how much Hunter will allow you to do at home. In the clinic we would normally shave the area with clippers to remove the soiled hair and debris. We would then clean the area with a chlorhexidine scrub. You can find a scrub like this at your drug store under the brand name Hibiclens. For topical treatment we would usually use a Gentocin spray, such as Gentaspray. This product is usually prescription only though. You could try an over the counter hotspot spray from the pet store or the product Zymox Topical Spray which can be purchased online, but these products may not be effective depending on response you may need to make an appointment to see the vet. I would suggest Fromm's, California Natural by Natura or the Halo line brand food https://halopets.com/products/halo-holistic-lamb-and-lamb-liver-recipe-adult-dogs You can also visit your local Natural pet food store for more suggestions since he likes a particular ingredient (i.e. Liver) hat is not found in many dog foods. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear that Leo is having a tick problem. Tick protection is important because depending on where you live, Ticks can transmit many devastating tick borne diseases. There are many products out there including topicals and a few collars. Some of these products will require a veterinary prescription and some are over the counter (OTC). Topical products include Frontline Plus, Advantix, Vectra 3D, Effitix, Activyl, Paradefense, etc. There are some oral medicines out also called Bravecto and Nexgard. The two collars out there that work are Preventic and Seresto. I would advise calling your vet to at least discuss what they recommend in your area and go from there. From a cost standpoint, the Seresto collar (fleas/ticks, 8 months of coverage, waterproof) is probably the most affordable. You can look online for purchasing options. That's cool that the recovery suit will work for her then. The cost of crates vary by location, so I would check costs in pet stores, as well as checking online sites that resell things (like Ebay if you have that in Bosnia & Herzegovina). You may be able to buy one second hand. Yes, she can eat her regular food :-)

My dog has very bad allergies and currently has some hotspots and what looks to be potential skin infections. His vet is familiar with this with him, but he has been at the vet several times in the past few months and I’d prefer not to stress him out
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. From the pictures it appears that Dune may be dealing with a skin infection. If you are unable to get him in to be seen by the veterinarian, I would recommend the below products, which can all be found online quite easily. Do this for about 3-4 weeks and if there is no improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Dune so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
