Hello. This is a common Red Eared Slider & there is a ton of information available online, in books & at pet stores on the proper care of these turtles. I have seen some articles that say overhead heat is best but I've also seen some that say it under tank heating is best where do you stand? The only thing they seem able to agree on is that heated rocks are bad
Thanks for reaching out. Heat rocks are bad. One recommendation is to utilize under tank heat as the background heat source, keeping the environment at 70-75 F 24-hours a day, then an overheat lamp can be set up as a timer to turn on for 12-14 hours/day and raise the day time heat to the appropriate level. Timers work great for the UVB bulb and extra heat. Good luck.

Good morning, my son has a land turtle ar home. Today i niticed 4-5 ticks on turtles head, legs. I removed all of them and killed. Can you tell me what to do with this turtle? May it have other ticks? or may tick eggs be at home? I am worried and don
You were correct in removing the ticks and disposing of them. Monitor Leo for more ticks. They can be a common pest (along with mites) in reptiles. Keep his enclosure clean to prevent reinfestation. You can sanitize it using household bleach diluted in water (1-3 oz of bleach in 1 quart of water). Ticks will typically feed for 48-72 hours then drop off to lay eggs in the environment. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite or infection at the sites of attachment. See your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles if necessary.

Make sure he is not chilled. Low temps can affect activity in reptiles. A Vitamin A deficiency may be responsible for the eye issues. Feed a good quality commercial diet and supplement with dark, leafy greens and fresh vegetables. Dust food with a calcium and multivitamin supplement several times weekly as well. Provide an adequate UVA/UVB light source that runs the length of the tank. Position it no more than 14 inches away from him. Do not place glass or plexiglass between him and the UVB source. Juveniles normally have a soft shell until about 6-8 months of age when it begins to harden.
