Normally cats defecate (poop) about once per day. If your cat is pooping more than that, you may be feeding a diet that is exceptionally high in insoluble fiber, which means that the fiber in the food cannot be digested and is passed out of the body. Typically, low quality grocery store brands fall into this category. Look for a higher quality food that is labeled to be lower in carbohydrates in order to decrease the volume and frequency of defecation.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Batman (great name!)! It is unfortunate that you can't medicate Batman but cats and toddlers are the hardest creatures to get medications in to! I'm going to assume that your vet tested him for parasites and ran full geriatric blood work to help find a cause for this protracted bout of diarrhea. I would confine Batman, personally, to contain the pooping to one room. Give him a break from trying to medicate him and order some probiotics. I like Purina Fortiflora because cats like it and you sprinkle the powder on the food once daily. If he likes it and there is no improvement in 7-10 days see if your Vet can compound metronidazole or tylosin in to a liquid to put in his food or into a treat. It costs more but if he will eat a medicated treat that would solve your problems. I would have your Vet order the treat in different flavors WITHOUT the medication added to see which he likes and so he thinks they are just treats and not medications. I ho

If he has IBD then you should talk to your vet about trying a prescription hypoallergenic diet like d/d or z/d or possible an OTC diet like Science diet sensitive stomach. These diets are easier to digest and may help with his IBD and the smell of his stool.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This may be due to a change in the environment causing this change. Sometimes, this may be due to a gastrointestinal condition such as parasites which can be causing him to defecate more frequently being less able to hold it to go outside. If this continues to happen, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this frustrating problem! I'm glad to hear that she is reliably peeing in the box, but pooping outside the box is also, of course, problematic. Have there been any changes in the home that she might perceive as stressful? Any new pets, a major change in your schedule, holiday visitors, etc. All of these things could contribute to this type of behavior. Make it a point to spend a few minutes a day with her, just giving her attention. Engage her in play with a wand type toy, or just sit and pet her and chat to her. Sometimes some reassurance can be really beneficial. Also, make sure there is a litter box on every level of your home, (every story--basement, main floor, upstairs, etc) and if you have multiple cats, the number of litter boxes should be the# of cats plus 1. ( so 3 boxes if you have 2 cats). If she's not been to the vet for this issue, take her in. If she has arthritis, etc or is otherwise painful, pooping may be uncomfortab
