Hello, I like the Virbac enzymatic tooth paste and tooth brushes the most. I also like the OraVet chews for dogs that do not tolerate toothbrushing. At 8 months, he may not need to have his teeth cleaned yet. However, at his 1 year old checkup you should make sure to ask your veterinarian to assess his teeth and give you a recommendation on when you'll need to have his teeth cleaned. Hope this helps and best of luck.
Hello, yes, anything you can use will help Lily. You can use a combination of products such as chews, wipes, water additives & dog specific tooth paste. If Lily's dental condition is severe enough, it might be prudent to talk to your veterinarian about adding antibiotics to the regimen. Using an appropriate antibiotic for one week, stopping for 3 weeks, & repeating will keep bacterial numbers down in the mouth & prevent the showering of bacteria into the blood stream where the risk of endocarditis might be higher because of her CHF. If you want to check out what products are recommended by veterinarians, check out https://vcoh.org ( veterinary Council on Oral Health ). Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
The most important part of a home dental care program is actually just brushing the teeth at all and does not seem to make a difference which toothpaste is used unless you use a proven toothpaste. There are actually only 2 toothpastes on the market that have been proven to help improve dental health in dogs. I am attaching a list of approved dental products below. http://www.vohc.org/VOHCAcceptedProductsTable_Dogs.pdf So, I would recommend purchasing PetSmile or Essential Healthy Mouth if you are going to use a toothpaste. I have found that homemade toothpastes are not very good tasting (so it makes it harder for you to brush the teeth) and would recommend using a good brush without any toothpaste instead of making a homemade toothpaste. I am attaching a link to a handout below which includes a detailed discussion on home dental care including products for cleaning the teeth. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=640 Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thank
Hello. That is a great question. People have different preferences but I personally recommend the poultry flavored toothpaste by CET. I like that it has enzymes in it so any contact with the tooth will start working on the tartar and bacteria. As far as mouthwash goes I like the one from OraVet that you can put into their drinking water to help flush their mouse as they drink.
Try an enzymatic toothpaste such as Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Toothpaste. Make sure whichever toothpaste/toothbrush you decide on has the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) seal of approval on it. If the fingerbrush is not working as well as you'd like, try a brush with stiffer bristles or use a gauze pad.
