I keep getting conflicting info on feeding red eared sliders. Some articles say 75% of the diet should be leafy greens ONLY (no fruit unless you want turtle to have diarrhea) and 25% commercial turtle food. (NO "people"food like meat or chicken) This
Thanks for reaching out about Ruby. Meat such as chicken, is a poor food since it is low in calcium and high in phosphorus. My usually recommendation is 1/3-1/3-1/3, meaning parts vegetables (green, red, yellow, orange), pellets and live fish (goldfish, tetras). The benefit of whole live fish is environmental enrichment (hunting, foraging) and has a skeleton with calcium, muscle and organs rich in other nutrients. Vegetables provide a wide variety of vegetables and the pellets a fairly balanced diet. Water temperature, a basking site with UVB and heat and water quality are also important. Good luck.

Fluker's or Maxuri pellets/sticks are quality diets. The diet should be varied to maximize nutrition. Offer leafy greens, crickets, small feeder fish, krill/shrimp (either can be freeze dried) or superworms in addition to a commercial pelleted diet.

Choose a commercial pelleted diet labeled as "all flock" or "flock raiser". This is a complete diet for most chickens. For the hen, you will need to supplement calcium, especially if she is a layer. You can offer her crushed oyster shells freely. Do not use a layer diet for both. The calcium levels would be too high for the rooster leading to potential health issues for him. Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. There are lots of reasons why a snake might go on a hunger strike, but it sounds like you've narrowed it down to a food preference. Rats are a bit more nutritious and ideally preferable over mice, but mice are also a perfectly acceptable option. Some snakes simply prefer them, in which case you are welcome to keep feeding Luminescence mice, and depending on her size she may simply need multiple mice per feeding as she grows. If you want to encourage her to switch to rats, you can try rubbing a dead mouse or mouse bedding on the rat prior to offering it, to give the rat a more familiar scent. Keep trying - but don't stress if the end result is she ends up staying on mice. Hope this helps!

What Jet has done is effectively trained you to feed him what he wants to eat. You can break him of the habit, but it will take time and effort. Dogs thrive on routine, so begin a consistent feeding schedule if you don't already have one. Choose a kibble he will eat. There are many good ones on the market. Since he likes chicken, choose a chicken flavor. Once you have chosen a diet, stick with it. Changing diets frequently may lead to stomach upset and can reinforce a finicky eater's behavior. Prepare his meal at the scheduled time and leave it down for 20 to 30 minutes before picking it up, whether he has eaten or not. Repeat this at the next scheduled mealtime. You can mix some warm water or a teaspoon of baby food into the meal to stimulate his appetite. Do not feed him between meals or offer any snacks. You'll need to be firm and resist his begging. He will not starve. He will eat when he gets hungry and realizes no other food will be forthcoming.
