What food is good for cats who are five years old ?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are several diets available in the market as you have probably noticed. I personally prefer Purina, Royal canin and Science Diet foods as they are of high quality and have research to back up their use. Any of their variations should be good for Maddi. Hi how would you compare blue buffalo Rx diet HF hydrolyzed canned food to hills Z/d hydrolyzed rx canned diet? Trying to find an alternative to royal Canin Selected protein Rx diets which Trixie will no longer eat .. nor does she like the hills z/d
Frankly, I do not care for Blue Buffalo products because they have a history of lying about their ingredients in their diets. Hills and Royal Canin are my preferred brands. There are other limited protein food brands out there, such as Natural Balance, which has formulas with a single protein source and a single carbohydrate source, making it less likely for your cat to develop an allergy.

Hi there! I’m not familiar with this brand, but those are good ingredients! You could definitely start your other cat on it, as long as your regular vet has no concerns based on your cat’s health history. As long as he’s on a high quality food, it may not be necessary until you start seeing the early signs of arthritis or other joint troubles.

I have two beautiful cat brothers- they just turned a year old. I got all their shots, deworming etc through vetco. they have also been neutered. Recently I heard I should be feeding them strictly wet food not kibble- is this true? for some reason
Canned food is recommended because it has a high moisture content and it is a high protein/low carb diet. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they require protein (of animal origin) and very little to no carbs in their diet. In the wild, the only carbs ingested are typically those eaten by small prey. Many dry foods, by their very nature, are high in carbs which can lead to obesity. You can continue to feed a dry food as long as you choose a grain free or low carb product. Keep them up to date on vaccines, use monthly parasite prevention, feed a healthy diet and provide plenty of exercise and love. Probiotics can be used to promote gut health and won't harm them, however if they have no GI issues then you can skip them.

My cats are shedding a lot of hair and I was thinking of starting to give them cod liver oil. But I searched about it and found out that I can’t give them the regular ones that we as humans take. Is there a specific good one for cats?
Cod liver oil contains a large proportion of vitamins and minerals which can be difficult to adjust in small dosages. A blended omega fatty acid supplement formulated specifically for cats is preferred such as viacutan, omega aid or vitacat. Other options are specialist skin diets such as hills or royal canin which are additionally supplemented with natural antiinflammatory and coat conditioning ingredients
