I'd like an opinion on wet dog food? Is the Canidae brand good? I cant see the label back
Canidae is an OK brand, but seems to be more about marketing unnecessary ingredients rather than tailoring food to the dogs specific life stage. It is nutritionally adequate though, which is the most important thing. I would have to evaluate the specific product in question to have more of an opinion about it. The truth about most of these foods is that their claims usually amount to nothing more than that of a fad diet (i.e. paleo or atkins) and are not supported by sufficient evidence (even though they will make it sound like it is). As scientifically trained practitioners, us vets prefer to offer evidenced based treatment and the same goes for feeding suggestions. The most important thing on that bag is a tiny bit of writing under the guaranteed analysis called the AAFCO statement. This statement tells you what actual research went into making the product. Unfortunately an ingredient list can be misleading, and I recommend sticking to foods that follow WSAVA nutrition guidelines. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You have probably noticed the very large variety of diets available in the market. I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan and Hill's diets as they are palatable and also good in terms of ingredients. Both of these companies have their own puppy diets. There is currently no strong scientific evidence that grains are harmful and should be avoided so I do not really pay attention to that. Good luck!

Canidae, Acana, Orijen or Taste of the Wild are all premium diets. At her age, Nancyv should be eating a good quality food for large breed puppies. Stay away from store or discount brands as these foods typically contain low quality ingredients and fillers.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. Any puppy, especially one that is going to be a larger breed dog when fully grown, should be eating a kibble diet that is formulated for puppies/growth. Highly recommended dog food brands include Purina, Hills Science diet, and Royal Canin. That being said, cheaper options such as Pedigree are absolutely fine. We do NOT recommend grain free diets, especially in larger dogs, as they are linked to the development of a deadly type of heart disease called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). Vegetarian and vegan dog food are also very unhealthy. Dog foods that contain by-product are not bad/unhealthy. By-product can include the internal organs such as liver, heart, even bone, which are all rich in nutrients for dogs. I hope this is helpful! Best of luck finding a food for Apollo.
