The main purpose is to help slow down eating, but it does help in other ways too. When dogs eat too fast, they can gulp a lot of air. Slowly down their eating leads to less gulping of air, cutting down on burping and the potential of developing bloat.

Some dogs are quite the chowhounds – literally. Fortunately, there are some simple modifications that you can make to your dog’s mealtime routine that may help them to actually chew their kibble. Dig through your baking supplies and pull out a baking sheet or muffin tin. Spreading kibble over one of these pans will cause your dog to work to pick up each mouthful. Other options include forgoing a bowl or dish altogether and feeding your dog their entire meal out of a food dispensing toy, or using specific slow feeder bowls from the pet store that force the dog to work harder to eat.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is probably that her eating habits have changed. This is actually not uncommon and to correct it, this behavior has to be discouraged as much as possible. What I recommend is to give them their food and give them a certain amount of time (about 1 hour) to eat it. If she does not eat it then you can remove it and feed her again whenever she is due to eat again. This usually will get this resolved as she will eat it at more controlled times giving her less time to graze. Good luck and have a great day!

Eating fast is ok. Gobbling food in 10 seconds flat is not ok. I am being a little silly, but if you think that Hazel is eating too fast, there is nothing wrong with getting a special bowl to slow her down!

Many dogs gulp or bolt their food. It’s a common issue. Continue to use the special feeder. You could also look for kibble that is disc shaped or has a hole in the center as this will slow Zeke down as well as force him to chew more. You could also switch from a bowl to a food ball dispenser. He will have to roll the ball around the get the kibble to come out and this will definitely slow things down. Canned food may help because he has to lick rather than grab. Every dog is different. Some dogs do great on canned food while others don’t. Just make sure to slowly switch the diet and to feed he proper amount. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
