Wondering how exactly is the food stored? My dog is a bit picky and she doesn't eat the food if it's a bit stale.

I feed them in separate bowls on each side of the fireplace. They are grazers eat some leave etc. I put morning portion in their bowl and then later if empty evenings. I’d like to them to eat all their dry food in two meals and finish in a timely manner. How to train them to do this without making them get too skinny? And how many cups should I feed them? Is my dog over weight? He is Belgian malinois and He usually eats 5 cups of dry god food. High protein for high energy dogs everyday. Ps. He chews so no bedding in crate and he broke the plastic trey out of the bottom chewing too so I don't put anything in his crate that he can chew.
