UPDATE TO MY EARLIER REVIEW (I can't find out how to edit or delete my earlier review, so I'm posting a new one). We have been using this bulb for several years, always replacing once or twice a year. It's very reliable and long-lasting and my reptiles are thriving. My earlier review stated we couldn't get the latest batch of bulbs we purchased to stay on. Turns out it was user error, NOT the fault of the bulb. We were not turning off the fixture before removing/installing the new bulbs (it's a huge tank for our tegu and awkward to get at the switch). Luckily we figured this out and the new bulbs are working great.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Recent bad batch of bulbs?

I have been using this bulb for years for our lizards, always replacing them every 6 months as recommended. However, this year when I purchased the new bulbs for replacement (from a different online retailer), one didn't work right out of the box. I got a new one and it only worked for about an hour after going out. So I got another replacement, this time from a Petco store, and the same thing happened! It works for about 30-60 minutes before shutting off. I replaced the fixture as well, thinking that was the problem. Nope, it still goes off after working for a little while. I am at my wit's end, I'm not sure what to do at this point. The fixture I bought came with a bulb but it's a grow-light that doesn't have the uvb spectrum my lizard needs. Regardless, this morning I installed it to see what would happen (to rule out the fixture being the problem) and it's still going strong. I don't know if Zoo Med had a bad batch of bulbs that went to several distributors, or what's going on. I may just have to find a new brand if I can that has the same specs and the same size.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This product needs to be paired with a terrarium hood that will fit the lamp. That hood needs to be bought separately. I would recommend buying this product as a replacement only for the sake of spending less money. Great product though :)

Yes, I recommend this product.

These are nice and bright! Perfect for a larger tank! FYI the 22 inch lamps fit into the 24inch fixtures. Great for my bearded dragon.

Do you sell a fixture these bulbs go in?

  1. Petco doesn’t seem to have any T5 fixtures for a 22”lamp. Chewy has a zoo med hood that will fit the 22” t5 HO bulb. Arcadia makes high quality 24” t5 fixtures as well. I have seen them on Am@zon and at petsm@rt

Could I use this bulb in an aqueon 24in reflector? If no could someone recommend a good hood for these bulbs?

  1. I can't say for sure I'd it would work. I don't know if the metal would reflect the UVB. A good t5 light fixture a lot of people use is the Sun Blaster. Though there has been problems with the actual reflector, sometimes you need to remove it and flip it over and install it again otherwise it won't reflect UVB, theres a way you can tell by the way it reflects your hand but I forgot, you'd be able to look it up if you wanted that one, however I just checked the price and it's gone up quite a quite a bit. Both Reptisun and Repti Zoo make a T5 HO fixture for not much more. I'd look into one of them.

Is this one good for a bearded dragon in a tank that is 64 gallons?

  1. That is not a normal size tank, so if it is about 3 feet long then 1 is fine, if it is 4 feet long then either 2 of these or a single 3 foot long fixture.

could i use this in a 20 gallon pacman frog tank

  1. You can but it's overkill. They don't require UV so you could use a cheaper fish light.

would this work for a 120 gallon?

  1. No

what do i put this in? like what kind of lamp fixture? its to long to fit into a normal small lamp fixture and i'm having trouble finding a big one this would fit in.

Is this just the bulb or is this the fixture?

    1. I believe it is just the bulb.

I have a 20 gallon tank what size of this bulb should I use and does this need to be used along with a heat lamp.

    1. Yes, the 22” HO T5 is a good fit for a 20L, and yes, you’ll also need to provide separate a heat source.

is this the right fit and wattage for a bearded dragon in a 40 gallon tank?

    1. Yes! This is exactly what I use and I have a 40 gallon tank.

Will this work for a Zoo Med 30" T5 High Output Terrarium Hood Idk if this is the correct size light. It says it only fits the 22 inch bulbs

    1. If the measurement inside of the hood where the bulb connects is longer than 22inches, then the 22 inch bulb would be too short. I hope that this helps. I hope that this helps.
