I bought two big pieces 2 months ago look great but you can not just stick in the tank or it will turn water brown I soaked mine in a bucket in hot water for a week and changed water daily then once I put in tank I added a bag of charcoal to the filter water had a yellow look but by end of week was crystal clear again

Yes, I recommend this product.

So I have been going in to Petco once a week for a couple months and I've been looking all over for driftwood but either they are. Overpriced and very spendi delete or just not very big or very good at all. But I looked out one day and I found the most beautiful piece of driftwood and I bought. It's gonna look great in my tank. I have not soaked it or released the Tanner yet but it is heavy and I'm sure it will. Sync and be just fine if I do have problems I will update my review

Yes, I recommend this product.

I soaked mine for several hours in hot water to help draw out some of the tannins (to keep the water clear), then placed it right in my new tank. I love that it sank immediately and it hasn't turned my brown - it has been in the tank for a week. It also looks gorgeous!

Yes, I recommend this product.

You need at least a 75 gallon aquarium for this monster piece of wood. .Looking at the internet pictures I expected a nice size branch, what I got won't fit in my 20 gallon long aquarium. Better to buy in store so real size is seen.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Solid piece of wood to decorate your tank

Great piece of wood for my 55 gallon tank. Be sure and soak it in water several days to pull out the tannins. We soaked ours for three days before adding it to the tank.

Mine isn’t sinking!  Soaked it for most of the day and put in the tank and it is floating.

  1. Mopani wood is a very heavy wood and I’ve never seen even the smallest piece float. If your piece is floating- it might not be what you expect.  Boil it for about 30 min.  I do it 2x mainly to get most of the tannins out.   You shouldn’t have an issue then.

How long before the tannins stop leaching out?  My tank looks like sweet tea.  i have removed it and keep soaking.   My filter isn’t able to draw out the color.  I think I’m going to have to dump it all and start over.

  1. Follow the advise to soak it and change the water every day. Try boiling it for 30 to 40 minutes to kill germs and bacteria as well as remove more tannins. Don't boil for too long so you don't wear out the wood. As far as your current water, don't pour it out. Put in a charcoal filter for several days and do a few 20% water changes. That will fix everything. Don't get discouraged, your efforts will pay off. Mopani wood is good stuff. Hard wood that will last for years.
