Chemicals

This coco fiber has a strong chemical smell to it. There is definitely a deodorizer or additive in this. I bought some reptichip from a reptile expo a few days before and it had a clean earthy smell. I also bought some coco fiber from a plant nursery about a week ago and it smelled fine too. I ended up putting zoomed’s coco in a plant pot outside over a week ago and it still has the smell. Zoomed claims it is all natural and it isn’t, so it makes me question zoo med ethically. These chemicals aren’t good for us and they aren’t good for our reptiles.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Smells of gasoline (petroleum) when you wet it & break it apart. I read this is from cheap processing by the company that makes the bricks

No, I do not recommend this product.

Eco cococoir was discounted was first time purchase online. Excited to get 3 bricks for cheap, BUT when soaked, the wet coir smelled like gas fumes. Used it for worm bedding, worms reacted by gathering together in a twine ball. Very disappointed in quality of product.

Could I use this in my snail tank ?

  1. Yes, but would be more ideal if mixed with some potting soil and maybe some peat moss.

Can I use this for hissing cockroaches?

Can I use this for an emperor scorpion

    1. Yes, this is recommended for an emperor scorpion

Has this been washed with water several times to help remove chemicals?

Is this OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) certified? Normally certified for food that is in accordance with USDA's as Organic. I want to use it for growing organic vegetables.

      1. Being Certified has NOTHING to do with it.. organic means produced from a LIVING thing... the LEGAL definition of "organic" only means that certain ferts and peticides has ever been used on it.. The coir is dead, and offers little in the way of any nutritional benefits to a plant, but its a GREAT medium to use to grow plants IF you are attentive to your plants.. add vermiculite and perlite to it to allow it to drain better, be fluffier and easier for storong healthy roots to grow, and so it will hold the RIGHT amount of moisture for longer than regular earth soil ever could in the same.conditions... and the price is right, at the time i wrote this...

Does this contain any harmful chemicals?

      1. No it’s just natural materials

Can this be used for growing vegetables from seed.

      1. Probably

Would this work for an American Green Tree frog?

      1. Yes, this product works great for most amphibians that require humidity.

How much does 1 brick weigh?

      1. 1 brick weighs aprox 1 lb or 593 grams

Can I use this coco fiber on plants - root propagation and as an additive to potting mix for more drainage and add volume?
