I bought this 5 months ago, and it's burnt through 8 expensive light bulbs.. Petco wont replace it because it's been over 30 days.

Bought in a tank kit dec 23,2023. Yesterday(6/1) switch didn't flip like usual. Today (6/2) turned on the light the was soft. Flight was flickering. After a few minutes after making sure bulb wasn't loose went to turn off, switch would cluck was soft then sparked In my hand. Back of switch was hot !! This is the switch for the heat bulb. Unplugged it, threw away and bought a new one but not a zoo med brand. If I didn't pay attention or notice the bulb who knows what could have happened. Worked fine until yesterday.

Bought this 5 months ago and last night the switch started over heating. My search on Facebook and with my local pet store is saying that many ppl are having fires start at the switch around 5 months. Mine was exactly 5 months old. Avoid zoo med dual domes

My son got a leopard gecko and this lighting combo. Do these both get shut off at night? If so, what does the gecko need at night besides the heat mat?

These are not considered adequate lighting for a leopard gecko or any reptile. A tube style UVB would be more beneficial for them. In the meantime, shutting them both off at night would be best. And making sure you have a good thermostat hooked up to your heat mat to prevent burns.

Neither one is for night. You have to buy a separate heat emitter/infrared

Yes, I use mine with Leopard Geckos and Beardies. For thr leo I use a uvb/Uva bulb on one side and a heat emitter on the other.
