The Avian Sun 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent provides birds with safe levels of beneficial UVB and UVA for physical and psychological health. UVB enables birds to synthesize vitamin D3 for proper calcium metabolism which is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of strong bones, and egg production. UVA is visible to birds, enabling them to recognize mates, locate food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are essentially colorblind!

12 Months.
Compact fl uorescent lamps have a "burn in" period when the light and UVB output is at its greatest. For your new AvianSun 5.0 Compact Fluorescent Lamp, this period lasts about two weeks when the lamp is used to provide a normal photoperiod or day/night cycle at 10 to 12 hours per day (150 hours of use). Refer to the following chart for recommended distances during and after the burn in period. Zoo Med's AvianSun Deluxe Floor Lamp is fully adjustable enabling you to easily adjust the distance of the lamp to your bird's cage or perch. The lamp should be placed directly overhead of your bird. DO NOT place the lamp on the side of the cage causing your bird to stare into the lamp. Your lamp will provide beneficial UVA and UVB for a period of 12 months. After 12 months, the lamp should be replaced with a new AvianSun 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent Lamp. Before you turn your lamp on for the first time, date the base of the lamp to remind yourself when to replace it.
DO NOT place the lamp closer to your bird than the recommende distances listed above as eye damage may occur.

I have a 20 gallon tank for my bearded dragon and I just need to know how many watts of UVB do I need
I was wondering if there are any alternatives for my pet rabbit to get sunlight or UV light without bringing her outside. I want to make sure she gets an sufficient amount of vitamin D even if it is artificial UV light. I'm just concerned of the chance my rabbit is vitamin D deficient and was interested if I should invest in a UVB light bulb for her to compensate for her lack of sunlight.
What is the best way to heat hedgehog cage with lamp?
Since full spectrum growl lights for plants are supposed to mimic natural sunlight (is that correct?) then can I use that for my green anole lizard glass cage and save all that cost for a uvb light? I also have a heating pad for my back I could put under it if need be...?
Hi there. So I am looking into getting a heat dome for my crested gecko. I know they don’t have to have a heat lam but I want him to have a UVB bulb Because it’s good for them. But I am not quite sure that type to get. Any suggestions? I was looking at petco’s tropical combo pack. He lives in a 10 g. With live plant. (I will upgrade when he is bigger) also do you know an age on him? I got him 3 months ago from petsmart. I could tell he was a male a week after I got him. (Pic from yesterday)
If my juvenile slider turtle tank is next to a window, is UBV lighting nessesarry? (This is a wild turtle). And if it is a must, how long can they go without a UBV? (I'm am sending pics so you can see how far the tank is from the window, if you need it)
What kind of lighting does a red eared slider need, I tried to look it up online but I get confused with all the types of lights... Please help!!!!!!!
Hes hanging out closer to the bottom and hes also lays down with all his legs out but 1. I'm thinking MBD but hes in a screen enclosure, 2 uvb 5.0 bulbs. 1 heat. Crickets always get dusted. He gets plenty of water, and horned worms, plus super worms. Idk what do to I dont want to lose him. I use a multi vitamin aswell.
Ok so I know Loki needs 10 to 12 hrs under a uvb light but how long would he need in natural sunlight? Is it the same amount of time or do I cut in half because he is getting natural uvb? And do they still receive uvb rays in the shade? I have his cage setup where he gets morning light nd evening light nd some shade in between.
I just got a budgie and I'm wanting to know is it possible to train the budgie to sleep during the evenings and be up night and mornings I work third shift and I am able to purchase a full spectrum UV bulb so that I can get the equivalent of sunlight as well as take it out during the morning hours. I can also ensure a nice dark and quite place to put the bird in the evenings. My main concern is if this would genuinely harm the bird.
Is it safe to use a uv reptile heat lamp for newborn puppies??
Re: Ringo (Canary) - and Molting for 11 - 12 weeks. I live in southern Ontario, Canada. Winter light hours are 9-1/2 yrs. Summer light hours are 16 hrs. I have him on a 12 x 12 hrs., year round. Am I doing it correctly?
