Questions
Can the bottom hold water without leaking?
- It should be able to hold water up to the horizontal vent below the door. Unless the silicone seal has been damaged or was installed sloppily. I always fill the bottom of any new tank with water & let it sit for a day at least to test for leaks. I have bio-active with drainage layer & have no leaks yet.

What light hood is that in the picture that is shown. I cant find any that are the same size
- Hello! The Zilla Front Opening Terrarium comes with a hinged top panel with powder-coated screen, to which we have placed a Zilla Mini Heat & UVB Fixture on top of for our photography!

Can fruit flies escape from this tank?
- Probably. Flightless or not they will crawl around & find a way. You could attach a narrow panel of fine mesh across the inside of the bottom front vent to reduce the amount of escape. Since it is close to ground level & the most convenient long section of out. But there will always be all the other little gaps. It’s really hard to make a totally fruit fly escape proof tank so it’s just managing the amount.

I'm using this for my tree frog, but I also have a bird so I'm wondering if the coated metal is teflon free? Just trying to be safe!
- Hi! We appreciate you writing to us. It is powder coated. It contains no Teflon. If you have more questions, please call our friendly Consumer Care team at 1-888-255-4527.

I put a heat lamp right onto the mesh, and felt like it started smelling a bit, is this normal? And is it okay to use a 50w deep heat projector on the coated metal?
- I don’t know what you are keeping in this tank that would need that but it sounds like you shouldn’t be doing that. The only things that can successfully live in this tank would be tarantulas, scorpions or a pac man frog. Whatever you have in there you need a bigger tank. You are probably melting the styrofoam background. Please get an adaquate sized tank for your animal.

Is it good for hermit crabs?
- Hermit crabs need 6 inches or more of deep substrate for molting and tunneling for enrichment. The also love to climb the higher the better! This tank I actually invert and use as a topper to mimic the tree tops. My crabs spend more time in the topper than in the 55 gallon aquarium base tank. Would not recommend for a hermit crab as a primary habitat or crabitat as hermit crab owners call it.
