Provides excellent UVB for calcium absorption

smokahempa

I needed to look for a bulb that specifically claimed to provide vitamin D. My gecko was having toe problems in his hind feets. They seemed flimsy and weak, one toe even folded completely in half as he was walking. Didn't seem to be hurting him but it's not uncommon for geckos to lose a toe. So I bought calcium powder to cover the geckos in. And I already knew that vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium. My only complaint is the box didn't clearly mention that this bulb doesn't put out heat like my last daytime bulb. So now i need to buy a 2nd lamp. I still want to keep and use this bulb. My gecko seems happier with his calcium and absorption. Also this bulb is huge, sticks way out of my heat lamp. I'm not even sure what lamp would hold a bulb this big. Regardless, I'm happy. My gecko deserves the best health. This bulb provides the perfect amount of vitamin D he needs in his 30 gallon tank.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect for leopard geckos with shorter enclosures

Kyler Stone

Works great for leopard geckos! I use an UTH and this as well, they love to bask under it. My enclosure is fairly short tho compared to most, 12 inches in height and this is perfects at that distance with the 25W halogen bulb in it. I like to use the zilla 20W desert canopy series UVB bulb with this also. I have 3 and all have worked good for a year so far. I run them for 12 hours a day.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good bulb

Bought this bulb a couple of weeks ago so haven't had it long enough to give a true review, but so far so good! The brightness of the fluorescent isn't too overbearing and the cost was very reasonable.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Does anyone know the percentage of UVB this emits?

  1. Hello! The Zilla Desert Bulbs product 50 microwatts of UVB at 12", if you have further questions please give our team a call at 1-888-255-4527

Is this good to use for a elephant bush?

  1. Yes, it would be appropriate for most plants. However the best thing is actual sunlight.

Can I use this bulb for uvb in my bearded dragon

  1. My vet tested my month-old bulb and said that it was not putting out enough UV my beardie. Output was 15 and recommendation is 50.

can i use this for my tomato frog?

  1. Hi there! This would not be recommended for a frog. The tropical version would be more suitable!

Is this light okay for leopard geckos or do I go with the tropical one?

  1. This is what I use for my leopard gecko...no problems at all.

How often do you need to change this bulb because there is conflicting information online and no info provided on the box. Do you change it when it goes out or do you change after so many months? Does the bulb emit less UVB over time b4 it goes out?

  1. Every 6 months, but the coil bulbs aren't ideal since they don't cover enough area. Some geckos will be ok with these, but if you have a bearded dragon you 100% need the linear UVB bulbs.

Does the Zilla Desert Fluorescent UVB/UVA 20 watt bulb provide the amount of UVB/UVA that my Russian Tortoise requires?

  1. Hi there! Yes, it does!

Can I use a Desert Fluorescent Bulb for my Eastern Box Turtle for the UVA/B (not the heat). I have an alternate heat sourse

  1. Hi there! Thank you for your question. If the bulb is being placed 12 inches or further from the basking surface, yes, a desert bulb can be used. If the bulb will be closer than 12 inches to the basking surface, we would recommend a tropical bulb. We hope this helps!

Would this provide enough heat and light source for my Russian Tortoise?

  1. This bulb would provide adequate day light and UVA/B, but fluorescent coil bulbs do not produce a significant amount of heat. You would still require another heat bulb to create a basking spot during the day, and to possibly add something for night heat (like a heat mat) if your nighttime ambient temperature drops too low.

Is this a G9? Looking for uvb bulb for zilla low profile lamp

  1. No, this is not a G9 Bulb.
