This collar has a lightweight plastic clasp. It is not padded but is still a soft material, that is thin and easy to adjust in length. The cute heart charm is attached with a lobster style clasp which makes adding tags or changing the charm simple. I have a large cat that is very strong and loves going for walks, and this collar is perfect. It is not a break-away type of collar, so not suitable for leaving on an unsupervised animal, but the break-away collars were letting my cat escape his leash and making his adventures more exciting than I would prefer.
