As a cage, No, but as a Playhouse, Yes!

Ok, I did not buy this item to use as a cage, but as a playroon inside my Prevue 528 cage which is much larger. I took a chance that my mice would like the hamster ball because it's on a stand, and is open, so they can come and go as they please. Just FYI, it was kind of a nightmare to put together, so if you want to try this, have wire cutters handy for cutting the bottom 1/16 of an inch off the bottom of whatever vertical bars make the yellow clips that attach it to the base impossibe to use. I never could get the veritcal tube that goes to the top level to stay in, so used clear packing tape. The doors fall open, so iIleft them that way to use as ramps, half covered in bedding. They flipped the food dish out and played with until I taped that down too. And the water bottle should not be used, it has no ball bearing to bring the water down the pipe to them, and is tiny. The manufacturers need to try to assemble this cage themselves so they can improve the assembly process and make the yellow clips fasten better. One mouse loved it immediately and slept in it before she tried running in it. Three others joined her and are now sleeping in there (the dark spot in the upper left of the closeup) They take turns running in it, and sometimes run 2 at a time. I will add a video as soon as I can get one- they stop running as soon as they see me watching them, typical wild mice. But they love it so far and it's well ventilated everywhere so no breathing issues. So in short, as a cage, No, but as a playhouse in a much bigger cage, Yes. Though the access tube might be a bit tight for bigger hamsters. It's fine for my mice, even the pudgy lady. My mice love their other 3 wheels but seem to really appreciate the variation of different types of spinning.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hamster house: or hamster prison?

Treat your hamster right

Absolutely not. Hamsters are not toys for a child. They are living beings and no one should purchase this cage as a house for a hamster. Hamsters require a MINIMUM of 600 square inches of floor space. If you are looking for a place to house your hamster, I would recommend an ikea detolf cage, niteangel bigger world cage, or a bin cage or D.I.Y cage. This cage is literally a prison to your hamster. If you notice them monkeybarring or climbing on the bars of the cage, this is a sign of stress and boredom, it is NOT a sign that your hamster is happy. Unfortunately many people don't do proper research before adopting a hamster. Don't blame yourself- make a change. I've attached great places you can use as research to properly care for your hamster. - Victoria Raechel (youtuber) - California Hamster Association - Niteangel - Ginger's guide: How to care for Syrian hamsters To sum up: This cage is inhuman, should never be used as a home for a living creature, and is terrible in all ways.

No, just no.

This cage is just not okay. It's a prison. When you adopt a pet, they shouldn't be just alive. They should be HAPPY too! The minimum cage size is 450 sq inches of floor space, But I recommend 600 sq inches or more, my hamster is housed in a 700 sq inch tank! Please do your research! This is an excellent pet when taken care of properly!

do not ever buy for a hamster, mouse or gerbil. they need at least 450sq inches of floor space not including levels or platforms. just because its a cute pink color doesn't mean you should buy it for your kid. if your going to get a hamster, mouse or any animal make sure to do your research so the animal can live its best life possible.

No, I do not recommend this product.

DO NOT buy this or anything like this for your hamster. You can get a $10 bin cage that is a good size and will save you money. Please do your research before buying and pets

A single Syrian hamster needs 450 sq inches of unbroken floor space and an 8 inch wheel MINIMUM. Some may even need 12 inch wheels. A pair of dwarfs need just as much (excluding the wheel)! This is inhumane for any animal; it teaches improper husbandry.

this is a horrible cage and a horrible price to say this would be a fun cage is a joke . if you really want a nice cheap heavy duty cage just make a bin cage really cheap option only costs abot 15 dollars at most and almost 4 times as big

No, I do not recommend this product.

This is too small for natural foragers like hamsters! They need more horizontal space to range about in. Please consider this only as a temporary cage, not as a permanent home for your pet.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Would this be good for two regular small rats?

  1. This isn't even big enough for one hamster. The fact Petco is even implying it MIGHT be big enough for rats is disgusting.
