Unfortunately, a miss

I—and more importantly, my dog—love most Woof products but not the Pupsicle, unfortunately. I wanted to write this somewhat negative review of the product so potential customers could see why it might not be a good idea to choose this option—or maybe confirm it IS the right product if your dog has very different preferences compared to mine. A standard poodle who is WAY too smart and mischievous for his own good, Q hasn’t had any interest in the toy, no matter what I put in it. Initially I tried the pre-made treats, but he didn’t react beyond sniffing at it and walking away to cause mayhem somewhere else. Next I got the molds and the pre-made mix—still no interest. Finally I made my own treats using a variety of different ingredients: peanut butter, cream cheese, turkey broth, mashed up treats with kibble, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc. The best reaction I got was to the homemade turkey broth (he rejected the store-bought beef broth, of course), which he licked a few times and then lost interest. I think the main issue is that because the treat (either the pre-made or the type you make using the mold) that goes into the toy doesn’t really stick out; it’s smaller than you’d expect it to be for the size of the Pupsicle, so the dog doesn’t have a ton of area to lick. I understand why it’s designed this way (too much lickable surface area means the dog consumes the treat faster, or can bite into it), but I wish the mold was a little bigger so the pop would stick out more at the beginning. The Pupsicle is also pretty heavy (which can be a good thing, because it seems very sturdy/durable) and rather large, so Q doesn’t like to carry it around in his mouth. It should be noted that while he is not super motivated by treats, Q has issues around patience versus instant gratification; I think he doesn’t derive enough satisfaction from just licking the frozen pop, and getting a small taste from the frozen treat, rather than chewing the refills in the Doggie Dental toy, or getting cream cheese out of a Kong, two treats he ADORES. The other issues are much more specific to his personal preferences, rather than the toy’s design, but you may still want to consider them when choosing this toy: Q doesn’t like peanut butter (if your dog feels the same way, don’t get the new lickable squeeze pouches—they’re all peanut butter based); and recently I’ve come to realize he doesn’t like to eat/lick frozen food (although he likes to chew the occasional ice cube). I know this is WAY too long of a review so most people won’t get this far, but I wanted to be as thorough and specific as possible to help future customers make informed choices for their dog. I still gave the toy two stars because despite my minor quibble about the way it’s designed, it seems like a good idea and it’s very sturdy—this is more about Q’s personal preferences and issues. Like I said, we love other Woof products like the Dental Brush and Bully Sticks, but this one was a miss! I didn’t try to get a refund because it was way past the 60 day mark when I finally exhausted all potential treat pop food combinations and gave up completely on the Pupsicle. Hope this helped!

I got a pupsicle and sample mix in a monthly subscription box from my local pet store, so I had to buy another cycle (since I have 2 pups) along with a mold tray. My dogs love them so much. These woof treats are their clear favorite.

Prim's favorite enrichment

We've tried just about every type of food-based enrichment, and the Pupsicle is by far the favorite. Her favorite refill is the PB and chicken one, and we get at least a half hour from them despite her determined licking. We'd highly recommend this if your dog has a high food drive like ours do!

Excellent quiet time for my pup. When it is time to settle down for the night, nothing is better than these pupsicles, to help her unwind and relax. It's also great during the time, when it's a good change from everyday routines. I really love these. They are great for 'whenever'! The quality is superb!

Dogs love, but hard to close after washing

The dogs liked the birthday pops, but not as much as the beef or chicken. Also, the pupsicle is hard to close after washing it a few times…

While he's aging, he can still be quite busy. This slows him down long enough to sweep the kitchen floor!
