menadione sodium bisulfite complex has a bad rap as far as cat food goes. I steer away from any that has this added form of k2 in it. What's your take on it?
- Hi kab4, - There are three types of Vitamin K (K1,K2,K3) K1 and K2 are both naturally derived and K3 is synthetically made. Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting. - K1 & K2 the way wet and dry pet food is made often breaks down through processing. K1 & K2 availability is also limited in its supply thus the need in some cases for K3 or Menadione. - K3 is safe and toxic levels are thousands times greater than recommended. - Most Vitamin K is made by bacteria in the gastrointestinal system thus only small amounts are needed. - No case of toxic effect from Menadione has ever been substantiated Menadione sodium bisulfite complex is added in very small amounts to the recipe--just enough to provide the levels of vitamin K to keep a cat healthy. Thanks,
