The food itself is fine, but the bag was split open in the box and food was loose made a mess!

As a new dog owner, I'm trying to figure out the best way to care for my dog. I was told to continue with the food she'd been getting so I went to PetSmart and there it was! I placed an order and it arrived first thing the next day. This is working!

I'll start with the good side of this food: It's affordable and our dog liked it. Alright, onto the bad: Our dog started presenting with a cough, bloating, and a resting breathing rate twice as fast as it should be. Took him to the vet, was deferred to an actual hospital. His heart is twice the size it should be, and he probably has a couple years left to live. Our dog is two. The vet says the food is almost certainly the cause of this as grain-free diets, as well as pea and lentil based diets (also present here), have been consistently linked to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The food itself isn't a one for one direct cause, but if your dog has any predisposition it becomes a major risk. Sorry, I don't particularly like doing reviews like this, or reviews at all. But our dog (pit bull/German shepherd mix) should have an expected lifespan of 10-12 years. His expected life span is now 6. I don't want anyone else to go through that. She likes it!! My girl is so picky but she loves this food. Beef is her choice.

Dogs love it and fixed the loose stool we were having with another brand.

My Giant Breed has been on this for 5 years and just developed AFIB, the vet said the grain free is linked to cardio diseases and more than likely caused DCM and Taurine deficiencies. I cannot believe that they are able to sell this product. The FDA was investigating Grain Free and has not released conclusive results- but this food is terrible. We have had our dog since birth and was breed by our family members with very reputable dogs, none of the rest of them have had any heart issues.

This is our second German Shepherd Dog with an allergy to chicken and its byproducts. This was our best find for a quality, chicken-free food at a good value. We’ve put all our dogs on it in case they “share.” And they all love it.
