Questions
What is the phosphorus content of the pate's please? You haven't given it in any of the queries... and I see there was one. Thanks!
- I believe I asked that question, I don’t have the actual phos % but here’s a tidbit of information to figure it out: Let's assume you have a food with a moisture content of 76% and a phosphorus content of 0.2% on an As Fed basis. This is the formula: The dry matter in a food is always 100 - (% moisture in the food). So in this example, with 76% moisture, 100-76% leaves 24% dry matter. You then have to divide the phosphorus content by the dry matter. In this case, you would divide 0.2% phosphorus by 24% dry matter, which gives 0.833% phosphorus content of this food on a Dry Matter Analysis basis. There is a feline chronic kidney disease group on FB that is very informative and also has lower phosphorus food lists (wet and dry) but unfortunately this one is not on the list.

how much iodine is in each can or % provided thru the potassium iodide?
- Our foods are designed to be complete and balanced as per AAFCO, and this entails a certain minimum level of iodine, which we add as potassium iodide. As for how much, unfortunately, the iodine inquiry is a tricky one because the number is sort of a moving target. In the cooking process of canned and pouched food, our products go through a retort process. This is done on canned/pouches food for people as well. It is essentially the commercial sterilization process. The ingredients in the sealed can/pouch are heated for a certain time and temperature, and this is what gives the product a multi-year year shelf life without the need for preservatives. I mention the retort process, because during the heating phase, there is significant iodine loss. So much so that we have to add back in some iodine to meet the minimum levels of AAFCO in order to make our foods complete and balanced.

I have a cat with newly diagnosed Kidney Disease. Why do all of the cat food companies make it so impossible to find Phosphorous content in their non-prescription products.
- I sympathize with you. I would guess it's to defer business to the prescription-food makers. We have had 13 cats between us over 50 years. None has ever "liked" prescription products. We have always wished there was a tasty "sprinkle on" additive instead.

The Bff line had chicken, land and sea and fish based color coded options. Which does fall under? It lists chicken as primary flavor, but there's also tuna in it, it smells like tuna. Trying to transition my cats from less fish based food.
- Meal or No Deal is beef-based with chicken. The Hydrating Puree makes it have a very soft texture. I have 7 cats. Two enjoyed it for two weeks then stopped eating it completely. The other 5 had no interest. I do still get Press Your Lunch- Chicken Dinner. 1 cat has to have it at every meal and really enjoys it. He is a healthy 13 yr. old

I have a cat with stage III CKD and diabetes. What is the phosphorus content of the hydrating purees? Are they appropriate for my girl?
- I would contact your veterinarian, ask them about appropriate foods for cats with CKD, find out about maximum levels of minerals that you can feed, then contact the pet foid manufacturer of which foods you’re interested in trying for your cats. Best of luck!

How suitable is this for a picky cat with hyperthyroidism?
- My hyperthyroid cat loves this. just had the I-131 treatment on her and she still loves it along with our other cat that is a picky eater. Picky eater does not like all the flavors but loves the chicken and the chicken with beef. Picky eater has few teeth and this is great for her.
