I have decided to start feeding them home cooked meals of chicken rice vegetables and beans. is this safe? What else should I put in the food to ensure that they are getting all their nutritional needs

Our 3-year old basset/lab/terrier mix has been struggling with loose stools - not diarrhea but loose. We were giving him Wellness brand complete health chicken, but since the issues started we've been doing cooked chicken, rice, and pumpkin. We'd like to get him back on kibble but I have no idea what direction we should go i.e. ingredients to look for/avoid. Any advice? All my googling indicates it's very idiosyncratic and trial-and-error, but this seems so inefficient and not good for our pup.
