I've been buying this for my cats for over six years, and suddenly they won't eat it anymore. The size/shape of the kibble has changed, along with the flavor, Now, I'm on the hunt for another kibble that my cats will eat.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have never bought this brand of food before but my cats loved it! They may have just been excited for a different flavor from their typical food but regardless they ate it up quickly every time!

Does this product contain magnesium?

  1. Hi Hayley, the CORE Indoor Chicken & Turkey dry cat food has 0.14% As Fed magnesium.

I recently got a cat from a local humane society and he needs a grain free diet because he has allergies and skin issues. They said when they switched him to the grain free 95% of his issues went away but he still has some spots. Will this food help him??

  1. I know this was 4 years ago, but it may help others in a similar situation. I rescued a 2-year-old community cat who was getting very sick and have spent the last 6 months (and over $1000 in vet bills) trying to find something that helped his stomach and skin. He's allergic to fish... and goodness knows what else because he had every parasite known to cat-kind. With the combination of Wellness Indoor Core and 1/8 tsp a day of F-Biotic from Wysong he FINALLY has healthy stools. I also feed him a grain-free limited diet canned food from Petco, but that hasn't hurt nor helped his stomach; it's what I mix the supplements with.

I know this is primarily for adult cats but I have 3 adult cats and one kitten. Is it safe for her to eat this? She is 4 months old.

  1. Your kitten can absolutely eat this food. Kitten food is just a marketing strategy. After their mama's milk, there is no such thing as kitten specific food in the wild. As long as you feed your adult cats and kitten high qualify food (like Wellness), they can all eat the same food.

urinary tract health - Wellness food

  1. Hi Ruthie, I highly recommend the Whole Earth Farms Pate flavors for your cat. If you can, avoid giving her dry food for a month and add a teaspoon of water to her food. Additionally, I would add CatSip (lactose free milk for cats) to her daily diet as that will help keep her properly hydrated. You should keep your cat on an all wet food diet (which I strongly recommend). If that's not possible then I would limit her dry food to 1/4 of her intake (3/4 wet) which is high in protein and avoid CD and urinary treatment foods. Wet food with a little water and cat sip is all you need to keep his/her crystals away.

does this help with hairballs?

  1. This should definitely help with hairballs! The fiber content in the Core indoor formula is really high, with a range between 4% and 8%, which is more than double the original Core formula (max 3%). Since indoor cats generally have less access to things like grasses, which outdoor cats will forage and eat for fiber, this formula will help with that tremendously with your cat's overall digestion and, thus, the hairball problem. Though providing it some wheat or kitty grass to nibble on wouldn't hurt either.

why is magnesium % so high in the Core (14%) and not in the orignial indoor cat Wellness? (.098%). More than 9% is not good Vet said.

  1. It isn't 14.0%. It's 0.14%. Big difference...

Why is it advertised as having higher protein content than CORE original, when it in fact has 7% less?

  1. I think that might actually be a misstatement on Petco's part and not on Wellness'. Nowhere on the packaging of the Core Indoor formula does it claim to have more protein (i went and checked my bag just to make sure!). It does state it has 20% less fat than the original formula though, which makes sense given that indoor cats tend to have more sedentary lives and thus don't have the same high caloric and nutritional needs as outdoor cats. I think that and the fact that it's got a higher fiber content (almost double, i'm guessing since indoor cats have less access to grasses and other natural sources of fiber to help with digestion and hairballs), and it's fish-free (and definitely less smelly as a result) are really the main differences in the formulas. I don't think you can go wrong choosing either formula, really.
