Great nutrition, moderate fat, helpful supplements

Our mini-labradoodle passed just shy of 19 years, and his "sister" (mini-goldendoodle) at 17 1/2. They were fed Wellness Complete Health Senior Chicken & Barley most of their adult lives. We chose this for the caloric and nutritional profile, and the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory supplements. Obviously our pups enjoyed a lengthy healthspan on this diet!

Not bad, but keep an eye out

I switched my dog over to this food because his usual food (different brand) was out of stock for a bit and while it kept his energy levels the same, it dramatically increased his need to poop and drink more water. This caused him to have a couple of accidents in the house, which rarely happened in the past. Luckily, his previous food is back in stock so we will be switching back.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The Senior Complete Health is the best food I have found for my 13 yo dog. She loves the taste and genuinely seems excited when we feed her. And the amount you get, the price can’t be beat.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased there senior dog food and my dog refused to eat. She is normally not picky so we tried everything to get her to eat it. Then we realized the food was so hard it was hurting her teeth to eat it. We ended up having to crush it up with a mortar and pestle until we could get another food and even then it was difficult.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Is Wellness senior food 5k grain free?

  1. Wellness Senior is not grain free, it contains rice bran. The Wellness Simple Solutions line of foods is grain free, and so is their CORE line, but the CORE line has higher levels of protein and fat, if your dog isn't particularly active the CORE diet could make him/her gain weight. If your dog has dry skin or dandruff, try mixing a little salmon oil or cold-pressed, extra virgin olive into his/her meals. (about 1/4 teaspoon) Both are good sources of Omega Fatty Acids, which is known to help dry skin.

My 14 yr old Jack RTerrier, the Vet think she has Pancreatis, some leasons on her spleen & liver.Whats the best food for her?

  1. Dogs with Pancreatis need a low fat diet (10% fat or less) . A really good quality food to consider is Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Frozen Diets. You also might try Blue Buffalo Life Protection Adult Small Breed Healthy Weight (10% fat), Precise Holistic Complete Senior (9% fat), or Premium Edge Weight II Weight Control Formula (9% fat). There are others, you need to read the labels of the different products. Rather than dog biscuits, try givin g a baby carrot or two or an apple wedge (no seeds). They are healthy treats dogs usually love. If you can't get your dog to eat the food that will help her condition, try mixing in a little non-fat (or low fat) cottage cheese or cooked egg white to tempt her into eating. 3 small meals a day is better for dogs with Pancreatis.

My dog has had pancreatitis..He needs a low fat dog food...What would you suggest..Also he is 14 years old...

  1. Royal Canin LF is suppose to be the lowest in fat of the dry foods. My little Yorkie is on it for CIL. I wasn't given much hope but with the RC LF and me adding about a Tablespoon of whipped potatoes (potatoes cooked and then mixed with the water off of themselves), 1/4 tsp of fiber powder and 1/4 of a capsule of ginger with each meal, he has responded so well I have not, as yet, had to put him on any meds. Good luck with your baby.
