The only water additive my dog won’t drink

Maisiesmama

I’ve given my dog all sorts of water additives from various brands through the years and she’s never shown any preference or distaste toward any of them… until now!! This one apparently tastes so bad she’s opting for dehydration over having to drink it. It smells awful too. This is not the first time a dog product from this brand has been significantly worse than similar products from competitors so I will never be purchasing from them again and you should definitely not buy this!!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Seizures, vomiting, bloody stools

My dog has had four seizures in the last two weeks. He has been on this product for about a year. He also has increasingly worse stomach issues, such as bloody stool and vomiting. I wish I had checked these reviews sooner because I see others saying the same thing. Yes, it does help his teeth, but at what cost? I’m going to discontinue use and see if he gets better…

No, I do not recommend this product.

stopped drinking water

My dog stopped drinking his water for 3 days when I used this. I cleaned his bowl, started with fresh new water and did not use it again. He was obviously very thirsty and "tested" his water so once changed he's back to drinking again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not good at all. Switched to this brand bc my normal brand was out. My dogs are both itchy (which they NEVER are and my male dog had a mini seizure. Wish I would have read the reviews first as I see now others experienced the same 😭😭😭😭😭 do not recommend this product at all. This produxt is the only difference in our routine. I will be taking this back for a refund

No, I do not recommend this product.

Reasonably priced for results. I have been using this Tartar Control water additive for well over a year. My senior pup's teeth and gums are healthy. I don't brush her teeth as often as I should but the vet says I am doing a great job!! So I know for sure in my case, this really does work.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought a bottle last week for my 75 lb Samoyed. I brush his teeth about 5 days a week, but recently his breath has smelled bad and he was drooling more than usual. I add one teaspoon to a cup of water/crushed ice daily. I already see a difference in less than 7 days.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Is this product safe for puppies? Over 6 months?

  1. Hi Anonymous, Dogs older than 12 weeks are fine. Thanks,

We added 3 tsp to 24 oz of water, that’s how much his water dish holds. What is the daily dose? Is 3 tsp too much? Or just 1 tsp per day?  Are you supposed to have this in his water at all times? I understand the ratio of 1 tsp per 8 oz of water.

I have two dogs, each with their own water bowl, but they tend to share the bowls. If one dog drinks more than the other during the day, can they ingest too much? It is once a day or do I add more each time I refill their water bowls?

    1. I have multiple pets drinking out of a stainless steel water pet fountain, and I just add a little (measurement equivalents are on the bottle directions) more into the water when the level goes down, or when the entire bowl is refilled after cleaning. So long as you are only adding the recommended amount, or a few squirts, there shouldn't be any issues. (Using the dental water additive products for many years now).

Is this product dangerous for cats? I have a cat that drinks out of the same water bowl as my dog.

    1. Usually the water bowl dental additives are labeled "for dogs and cats," and are intended and manufactured to be used by both types of household pets. Our pet fountain is shared by cats and dogs--the amount of dental additive shouldn't be that much, again directions on the label of the product.

Can this be used in combination with the Well and Good fresh breath water additive?

    1. Hi Pesro, Yes, just make sure to read the directions. Thanks,

Please answer if this product can be harmful to cats if cats and dogs share a water bowl. My Vet isn't sure. Also your 'contact us' phone number isn't working-'the call can't be completed.'

    1. Hi YadRak, We suggest that it be used only for dogs. Thanks,

Can i use it in a continuous water bowl

    1. Yes, that's what I have for my dogs and they love it.

My dogs and cats seem to all drink from the same water trays. I have 4 through the house and they share. So would I be ok adding this product to the water with the chance that cats might drink it too?

    1. That's a good question to ask your vet. She would be able to tell you if there are any ingredients in the product that might be harmful to your cats.

    can this cause softer stools?

    1. Hi debbiedebo, There is nothing in this formula that should cause loose stools when used as directed. That being said, all pets will respond differently. We have not had any past concerns of this nature, but if there is any concern that the pet is behaving or responding oddly, we recommend discussing this with the veterinarian. Thanks

Just got this product and after 3 days of use I notice my Maltese anxiety has gotten worse. Is there something in this product to increase anxiety issues on dog with preexisting conditions? Help please

    1. Hi Lilc55, Please see below for the ingredients. You can contact your vet regarding this. Ingredients: Purified Water, Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide, Sodium Bicarbonate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methyl Paraben. Thanks,
