How to trim your dog's nails: Holding your dog's paw firmly in one hand, insert the nail into opening above the cutting blade and squeeze the handles together. If your dog's nails are extremely long, trim just a little off and wait a week to trim the nails again. This will allow the blood vessels to retreat back into the nail. Repeat the procedure once a week until you have reached the desired length. Important: If you cut too much and the nail starts to bleed, apply Four Paws Styptic Powder to the nail and the bleeding should stop.

Hi! I bought the clippers for large dogs. It has the safety latch, BUT IT has a moveable peice on one side,(which moves from side to side) . It does tighten abit on one side of the blade. My question is, what exactly is this piece for? help please!
- Hi Nanabanana51, If you are referring to the silver vertical piece that runs along the backside of the head of the toll then it is used to assist in preventing the guest from hitting the quick while clipping the nail. Have a spunky new rescue chihuahua mix and she is skittish. So much so she will resist any efforts to trim her nails. We have 4 dogs so I have trimmed nails hundreds of times--but with Ricki Ricardo, no luck. I sit on the floor and flip them over and cradle them between my legs. My wife distracts them with peanut butter on a spoon. Besides going to a groomer or vet, any ideas? I thought maybe a groomer table might help. Are there premium nail cutters of higher quality than store bought?

Hi. Our 11 yr old Border Collie has a back foot toenail that is bothering him. It is long and crooked and won’t let us clip it
I have been reading your tip on how to get your dog to have their claws cut without any problems. Part of the advice is to let your dog get used to the buzzing of the clippers on the dogs paw. I've never seen any clippers that buzz when cutting the claws as the only ones that buzz are for cutting the fur. As far as I know the nail cutting is done with something like scissors that has a part you can use to make sure you don't cut them too close to the quick of the claws.
How do you cut cat nails ?
Our schnauzer has bad nails that seem to splinter break and twist off. We've been to the vet over a half a dozen times in the last 12 months. Our last visit due to a bad back nail the vet conceded that the last trim two weeks prior the nails were not properly trimmed and promised he had trimmed the nails himself. The back nail is no longer an issue however a front nail seems much too long to us and the dog is licking his paw and at the top of that nail specifically. Help what should we do!

I am looking for a place that will clip my dogs nails, they're very long and there fully black.
